What's happening to me?!

I'm 37, two kids (youngest 14 months), no difficulties conceiving either. Suddenly my periods stopped and I'm told I may be menopausal. I've had fsh and amh tests - high and low respectively, but Dr won't discuss further as I'm still breastfeeding. This all started at christmas and coincided with a very stressful return to work. I've suddenly started piling on the pounds and noticing white hairs which were not there before. My stomach is swollen and tender; I don't think I've gained weight elsewhere. It's like a switch has flipped and I feel awful and so confused. We'd hoped for another child but that doesn't look possible anymore.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I feel so alone.

Replying with sympathy rather than advice!

Breastfeeding does impact your hormones, so I guess the GP is just thinking that there’s no value in doing lots of tests until you’ve stopped and you see how your hormones settle back down after.

Do you have a timescale planned for stopping breast feeding? If it’s not for a while then you’ll just have to put it all out of your mind and try not to worry.

Hormones can be so unpredictable at times.

Hopefully this response will get you a bit more traffic, I’m sure someone must have been in the same boat.

I don't want to be insensitive but I'm assuming you have done a pregnancy test (sorry to ask)?

Concur on the wait and see approach in terms of breastfeeding and hormones, BUT I'd want further tests now on the swollen and tender abdomen, as that's not related to breastfeeding or menopause.

Not insensitive at all, it was my first thought too. I've done about four tests which were all negative, but I'm not sure it would even be possible to be pregnant with high fsh anyway.

Thanks. Haven't really thought tbh, I don't want to rush the end for #2, for the sake of possible#3 which might not a possibility anyway.

Hi @MrsHero

How are you doing? Do you have any update?

Im going to the GP today as my periods have just suddenly stopped - I haven’t had one for nearly three months. I’m 41. Only other symptom is a bit of thrush.

Gutted as we were just about to start trying for no 2 😔

I conceived very easily at 37. I’m pretty upset.

If your stomach (or pelvis) is swollen and tender, have you had a scan? Ovarian cysts and some other things can be behind. Would want anything ruled out there.
