Anyone knowledgeable about this?

I have had atrial fibrillation on and off for some years - and it recently got worse. Following an echocardiogram I was diagnosed with a leaking mitral valve, but not so severe as to need surgery.

I am on metoprolol and an anticoagulant. Had treadmill test today (with a view to adding in flecainide) and they took me off it after 3 minutes as it was clear I have ischaemic heart disease (which means I cannot have flecainide apparently). Now I am grandma age - but not an elderly grandma! - and I eat no red meat, cheese or eggs and am a life long non-drinker and non-smoker - I feel a bit cheated and wish I had lived it up a bit more!! I guess it is hereditary - but likely to be as far back as my paternal grandfather.

I have seen a cardiologist privately as the waiting list just for a first appointment round here is 6 months and I needed something doing about the AF which was very troublesome. But I cannot afford more expensive investigations or surgery - I am using my savings.

Anyone else out there with similar problems, or working in the field who might have any suggestions/ideas? My savings will not last forever!
