Bleeding/sore butt

I've been having trouble with my anal area for a couple of months now. It flares, and then goes back to "bearable". I don't know what caused it at first, but I know I made it worse by scratching. I've used vaseline, bepanthen, nappy cream, and coconut oil. It's still sore and now it's bleeding a tiny bit (nothing major). What else can I try?

Get yourself to the GP. That's are loads of condensations which can cause this and depending on which, you need to treat it. Nobody here can tell you that.

chatenoire · 20/05/2024 10:34

There are no appointments for at least 6+ weeks or have to call in every morning and see if I can get anything, which I haven't been able to so far. Plus I'm sure they'll just add to my list of things that make me a hypochondriac. Just like my bleeding nipples, couldn't figure it out so have been waiting one year to see a dermatologist, have been told it's likely to be 2.

Have you used any piles treatments? I personally find Hemoprect works best for mine when I have a flare up.

However, since I have started using a portable bidet around 18 months ago, instead of just toilet paper, I have found that I have had many less flare ups/irritations, so maybe worth trying that?

Hope you get it sorted: it can make life very miserable

It's probably piles, although you should still see a doctor, even if you have to wait 6 weeks.
You can buy OTC treatment for piles.

SirenGirl · 20/05/2024 11:35

Can you afford a private gp appointment? I think it's not too expensive.

chatenoire · 20/05/2024 11:44

It doesn't hurt to go to the toilet BTW. It's just overall sore (which is why I don't think it's piles). I cycle quite a bit, so I think it's related to that

I'd happily pay for a private appointment but there aren't any where I live.

Are you sure? If not then you can do an online one.

The closest one is 30mi from me. I don't think a video call would be great, I mean I'm no pornstar and have no idea how to spread my buttcheeks so they have a good view!!

Will your own GP offer a private appointment? some do.

Does it bleed when you do a stool or all the time?

BusterGonad · 20/05/2024 12:31

Have you taken a look?

I just noticed the bleeding today, but just checked and it's not bleeding at this precise moment.

My DH checked a few days ago and he said it looked normal (not even sore!)

Usually if it's bright red blood on the toilet paper it's piles or a small tear. You could try putting a bit of Vaseline around your bottom hole before doing a stool, this would help minimise a tear. If it's dark blood in the toilet bowl/stool then it's a major worry. This is just my understanding BUT you really SHOULD visit a doctor as it could be anything.

supercatlady · 20/05/2024 16:34

I had this a few years back - GP prescribed a steroid cream which cleared it up really quickly. I’d tried all manner of things before that and nothing had worked. Not sure if you could get a private GP appt?

It's very light pink (barely there).

This can be a(nother) symptom of (peri) menopause - if you're coming towards that age? HRT tends to calm it down if it is.

I actually think I'm getting there .... My periods are starting to get a bit out of pattern. Last one (sorry TMI) started with clear flow for days, with only a tinge of light pink. Plus I've always been super regular and not anymore! I'm 40 this year so still a bit young

Changing/lower estrogen in peri can affect the anal area as well as the vulva, vagina and urethral tract. I became more prone to thrombosed piles.
As well as a pile cream containing products to help with itching and inflammation you could use an emollient ointment like Epaderm or Hydromol. This should helpsoothe and protectagainst scratching. With a little contorting you should be able to see if there is anything causing it - sometimes just inside the entrance.
Guessing you have also ruled out threadworms

Yes, I've ruled out worms. I also thought it could have been stress related. I'm a naturally itchy person which doesn't help
