Are all hotels in london expensive? I have been looking here and even the travelodge is expensive..

I'm not sure what youth hostels are like these days, but fairly sure they have family rooms. There is a pretty new one on Euston Road so very close to GOSH.

yes agree with wine. You not alone. We will help you. Do not worry. Just cat you my number.

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2008 17:39

I spoke to GOSH today and they said that because I haven't had my appointment letter yet (the appointments cleck phoned me yesterday with the appointment) they can't put me on the list yet. I would rather be at the hospital or the SC hotel because they are near Ds1.

MM That is a very kind offer but Dh wouldn't like the idea of me staying with a 'stranger' IYKWIM. I will be happy to meet for a tea though.

I am going to phone the local chartity on monday and see what they say. I would rather book a hotel and know I have somewhere to stay than get to GOSH on the day and find out I have no where to stay. Especially since there are families who live farther away than me from the hospital and will possibly be higher need.

can you not ring the clerk and ask her to email a copy of the letter to the people that arrange the rooms? I will whatever you need to help

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2008 17:51

will have to be monday now, before I can sort out anything out now.

OP posts:
winebeforepearls · 04/04/2008 18:00

Difficult, I know, but try not to worry about it over the weekend. GOSH deal with this sort of thing all the time, and I'm sure will do their best to sort something out for you. They probably have to juggle with accommodation for emergencies, but I'm sure no one's been left on the street for the night

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2008 18:10

I will probably be the one who has to sleep on an armchair lol!! I tried to phone the patient hotel too but they could only help the night before the op, because after that Ds1 will be on the ward

I have been searching for hostels, not sure if I like the idea of a shared room, and private rooms are about £152 for the 4 days. I will just have to hope that GOSH will have a room for me.. [fingers crossed]

hi if you recieve benefits i think you would be entitled to a community care grant (i think thats what its called) its a grant not a loan and its to help out in extra ordinary circumstances. try ringing your local jobcentre on monday, they might be able to help

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2008 23:35

Misdee said about that today too. Thanks

Ok, have recieved the appointment letter will phone them again on monday.

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 07/04/2008 10:50

well, I have spoken to Family services and they have put me on the list for a single room, she said that they only have a few single rooms, and anyone with a child in intensive care would be higher on the list than me, so I guess it will be hit or miss as to whether I will get a room.

SparklyGothKat · 07/04/2008 11:05

tried to phone the chartity too but can't get through

winebeforepearls · 07/04/2008 11:15

they said because i will have Ds2 i have to have a room. I would happily sleep on the floor but Ds2 needs a cot.

Sparkly, it is university holidays at the mo. Might be worth asking if there are any halls rooms going at University College, or Kings. These will be basic, but comfortable and SINGLE.
Neither are on-site but are fairly close to Gt Ormond St.

SparklyGothKat · 07/04/2008 12:53

Its on May 20th, would the uni. students be back then? I wouldn't mind a shared room, but the lady I spoke to said that I had to have a single room because of Ds2 I suppose not everyone wants to be woken by a crying baby.

OP posts:
marina · 07/04/2008 13:04

Oh sorry, I misread
They are back then, I'm afraid.
ALTHOUGH a lot of postgrads may have already checked out (to save money).
I live even further away than you do to be perfectly honest.
Fingers crossed for a room for you on the 20th.

SparklyGothKat · 07/04/2008 13:07

have a form coming to apply for a grant. If I can get booked into a hotel, I would sleep better till the op. knowing I defo. have somewhere IYKWIM

OP posts:
winebeforepearls · 07/04/2008 16:32

Sparkly, don't worry, you'll have somewhere to sleep.

I've got to go into GOSH on 21st April to help my friend and her son who're coming over for an op. If there's anything I can do while I'm there, anyone to talk to for you just CAT me.

winebeforepearls · 07/04/2008 16:34

Btw, having spoken to the local hotels for my friend, it seems they can always find you a room -- the nice man I spoke to at the Avalon in Cartwright Gardens, eg, said he usually runs at 80% occupancy, so they usually have a spare room for last-minute bookings.

So, once you hopefully get a grant, you should have no problem finding a room.
