I’ve been having digestive problems for over a year now and I am finally getting an endoscopy in 6-8 weeks time however I had another ‘attack’ last night and the wait seems like forever so I wondered if anybody had any ideas what this could be or what could help? To provide background, I’m mid 30s, healthy BMI, I’ve had an ultrasound and didn’t come back with anything and my bloods came back with mild hyperthyroidism. The pain is in the Epigastric region and spreads between my shoulder blades it is always there as a dull ache as soon as I wake up but I’ve had 3 ‘attacks’ in the last 4 months that have honestly been as painful as late contractions and the intensity of them coming and going does feel very similarly. It’s like somebody is twisting my stomach and the pain rapidly spreads to my back, I had it again last night for 2 hours and the pain makes me physically sick, I was sick 6 times last night from it. I don’t know what triggers is as I’ve cut foods out, been on anti acids etc and I am still getting this. If anybody has experienced anything similar or has any idea what this may be I would really appreciate any recommendations/advice had a good cry this morning as I’m just so lost with it all especially as I can’t find the cause to help prevent it.

Thank you

Sounds horrible. Have they checked gallbladder?

GettingStuffed · 20/05/2024 08:31

I agree it could be gallstones or possibly a stomach ulcer.

I have digestive issues and my worst triggers are saturated fat and beer and cheese

I have this. I've been diagnosed with Achalasia. The pain I get is where the esophagus goes into spasm. I was getting them several times a day, couldn’t eat much and was constantly being sick. I have had an endoscopy which didn’t show anything, then had a barium swallow which showed that the food wasn’t getting through properly, then had a Manometry test which show that the whole of the esophagus was going into spasm. Now I have had an endoscopy and had Botox injected into the lower esophagus to stop the muscles working and at the moment I don’t get the pain. Not saying this is what you have. Hope you can get it sorted quickly

@StatelyBouquet yes they have checked for gallbladder and it came back clear, I don’t know whether to just have another privately to make sure maybe.

@Dodie66 thank you for coming back to me, I’ve never heard of this before but now you’ve said it spasming it does make sense. When I sit up I find it not as unbearable as when I lie down. Can I ask did you have any other symptoms or were they pretty much identical to mine? I’ve seen a gastro and have the endoscopy to rule out anything sinister etc but this has never been mentioned before what was it that made your doctor test for this? I’m glad your symptoms are easing xx

They tested for it because I was being sick and lost a lot of weight. After they didn’t find anything on the endoscopy he said it would be a good idea to have the barium X-ray and thought it might be Dysphagia which is a problem swallowing food. Do you get it when eating?. I got to a stage where nothing was staying down. Ask if there is anything else you would like to know. I am on a FB group called UK Achalsia which has helped me a lot.
