Hey so since the start of Jan I have been experiencing lots of diff symptoms fatigue, I can sleep all day and still be so tired. Weight loss 10 stone to 8.7 stone without dieting or trying, night sweats I am waking up drenched in sweat, and itchy dry patches on legs.

And constantly getting ill to the point I have to stay in bed for a few days to recover the most recent was a chest infection but it has been every other week getting very poorly.
So I recently went to the docs as it wasn't getting any better and got a blood test everything was fine except for two things on my test my crp which was 47 and my esr not sure what the reading was on that one? So I have to have another test to see if these have come down.
Any ideas just because I have to wait another week for the blood test and wondered if anyone had anything similar ?
Thanks

I had symptoms like yours and after 3 months they discovered i had had glandular fever.

iwhaldh · 19/05/2024 17:02

Did they have to give u any medication for it?

Does the CRP level indicate infection /inflammation?
Have you had a chest infection?

iwhaldh · 19/05/2024 17:05

I did have a chest infection but recently and I've been ill so many times this year, and my symptoms started way before the chest infection which I had antibiotics for the doctor said both my inflammation markers where higher then he likes to see

Did they test you for coeliac disease?

iwhaldh · 19/05/2024 17:07

No I don't think so, but I don't get any pain or bloating after eating foods x

Crp of 47 is relatively low. Could be caused by a slight cold or inflammation. For context mine was in the 600s when I had an autoimmune flare. Rheum wouldn't even look at one of 47.

What were your other bloods? Bear in mind that nice guidelines are not optimal - eg ferritin is marked normal at low double digits but needs to be 70+ and ideally 100. TSH is ok at 5 but really needs to be around 2. Also b12 folate and d need to be looked at as well as full bloods etc. have you had ana and rf factor tested? Ask for those too if not and also a full thyroid, not just tsh.

I had all of them tested thyroid, diabetes, b12 iron they all came back fine

I'm having the bloods re done to see if the inflammation markers come down, and if they have great but it doesn't explain the other symptoms I've been having since Jan

Yesterday I pretty much slept from 7am - 3pm after having a good nights sleep and still felt tired, I've had these patches on my legs since last year doctor said excema but there round and flare up in the sun

That's my point- what the nhs says is ok is not optimal. Ferritin is perfect according to the nhs at very low levels but it needs to be much higher to prevent symptoms. Are the results on your nhs app?

iwhaldh · 19/05/2024 17:49

Sadly not when I go in for my repeat bloods I will ask for a copy of them xx

How are your lymph nodes.

iwhaldh · 19/05/2024 17:55

Checked no lumps or swelling found

Do you bleed/bruise easily.

iwhaldh · 19/05/2024 17:57

Bleed no bruising yes but I work in early years so I have always put it down to bumping small furniture

@KeirHardieGardens rheum 'wouldn't even look at a CRP of 47' if they knew what was causing it. If they didn't though they probably would be more interested. And ferritin may not be that helpful in the context an acute inflammatory process so there's probably not much point getting excited about it until things have settled down.

OP, it sounds like your GP's doing the sensible thing. Raised inflammatory markers are so non-specific that no one on here can really give you much advice - it needs someone with the benefit of knowing your medical history, being able to see any trend in the results and who can examine you for any physical signs of illnesses.
