... but how much should we drink?

I know it's something like 8 glasses but how much is that??

It got to 5pm the other day and I realised I'd only had one cup of coffee and a slurp of water all day. I don't think that's anywhere near the recommended amount

If the water in alcohol counts then I'm doing great

As a result of this thread I'm trying really hard to drink 8x8oz water a day but I'm finding it really hard to fit them all in! The best I've managed is 6x8oz and even then it's felt like I've been on the loo all day Still, I do feel a bit better drinking more water so I'm going to try and keep it up - just have to build up the amount I drink a bit more slowly I think!!

I found that if i went a few days just drinking coffee, juice and not much water then I ended up with a mild case of cystitis!!

I learned the hard way so I now try to pour as much water over my throat as I can, but I'm still nowhere near the 8 glasses mark!! More like 4 or 5.

prufrock, I wish!
Drinking loads of water is difficult and so boring!

I keep a pint glass by the sink and every time I go there I try to have a glass (for me, a 'glass' has to be a pint!) That way I get what I need to keep my kidneys healthy (or heathiER) and its the only way, for it to become a habit rather than something you have to remember to do. I have a bottle by the bed overnight. But on the docs advice I stop drinking at about 9 each night or I would NEVER get any sleep.
As a consequence of the water I have to drink I have had to cut down the coffee and juice (though not the alcohol lol!) and I a sure that= helps as well.

BTW Our water is a local supply - comes out of the river that flows past our house and charcoal filtered - so it is YUMMY - what is it about the Scottish water? I suppose it is because it is so soft most placed. If you put more than 1/4 of the recommended amount of soap powder into our machine you get bubbles coming out of the drawer, and I hardly every use fabric conditioner or hair conditioner - just don't need it.

susanmt, you are lucky to have great water. The thames valley water is yuck, hard and chlorined!

We have water delivered in 19 litre containers every week and we get through 6 of them between 2 adults and 2 teenagers every week. We all drink much more water as it is cooled and on tap, it also dispenses room temperature water as well as chilled which is bertter first thing in the morning!

As our water is softened so it was difficult to isolate a cold water supply for drinking without digging up the kitchen floor!
