Strawberry legs and general bad skin all over - help!

Name changed as this is a bit embarrassing

I've always had bad skin but weirdly not on my face, just everywhere else. I'm in my 40s now and it's worse than ever.

Really want to avoid another summer of covering up but I've tried everything (exfoliation physical and chemical, moisturising, ameliorate etc, dry skin brushing, cutting SLS, avoiding bio washing powder etc)

Here are some attractive pics of my legs but this is replicated on my arms, back, bum etc.

Has anyone else had similar? I'm too embarrassed to go to the GP and also it doesn't feel 'serious' enough. Grateful for any advice!!

It looks likes Keratosis pilaris to me, I’ve got it on my arms and so has my DS ( it can be hereditary). It looks like dry, rough, small bumps that are flesh-colored or pink and can feel like sandpaper or chicken skin. It is usually not itchy.

It’s pretty harmless, more annoying than anything. My DS has some lotion prescribed that helps abit, I’m not bothering with mine atm but I probably should try something.

This is what I have too. I've finally got the tops of my arms under control now and am starting the same process on my legs.

This is what my thigh looks like now. Hopefully I'll be able to report back in a while once I've continued my new regime for a while!

What I've found works for me on my upper arms is an exfoliating glove (I use this) with L'Occitane shower oil, in the shower. I then apply CeraVe moisturising lotion for dry to very dry skin every day. I've also started using a moisturiser at night too (M&S Apothecary Calm because it smells amazing and makes me sleep so well!)

My arms still look a bit like this (but better than they were) but they are now much, much smoother to the touch.

It used to bother me a lot and I still look at some people with beautiful smooth looking skin and wish I had the same, but I've accepted it's never going to happen!

Ameliorate cream is a miracle worker for this and will be your best friend!! It’s specifically formulated to get rid of keratosis pilaris

What's it like when you have been sunbathing? Is your skin smoother?

If it is then don't go overboard but try a subbed session once a week.

So many replies, thank you!
I've been using Garnier gradual tan for the last few days and I do feel better about my legs, helped a lot by everyone's replies.
I've cut down bread recently too so will see if that helps.
I did try sunbeds for it many years ago and really thought they'd help but they didn't which is probably a good thing!

I found a bottle of ameliorate cream in the cupboard this morning so have started a bit of an experiment! Assuming I stick with it, I'll report back on the progress on my legs where I'm using ameliorate cream on my left thigh and cerave on my right! 😂Otherwise I'll continue using the same exfoliating mitt and shower oil and occasional application of Nivea gradual tan cream (I can't do this regularly without turning into an oompalumpah)

We'll see what, if any, improvement I see. I have photos and everything from his morning.

Warning - I'm flakey as fuck, so chances of me seeing this experiment through are slim!

Well my legs look even worse today! This is after diligent moisturising, exfoliating and gradual tan.

I think the mistake here is that it takes more than one exfoliation to get rid of dead skin in the follicles, so there is some there and the gradual tan has then dyed it in the pores. I would still definitely recommend using an AHA body cream. Ameliorate is great but a bit pricey, I find the Revolution one is just as good and it's about a fiver!

I have a soap and glory one that I've been using so will continue with that as well.
