Sore that gets better and then worse again

Sorry if a bit gross

I had a small sore on my nose (where a piercing would be but I’ve never had one) which was weeping and healed leaving a small dip. This was a few months back and since then it gets better, heals up leaving the dip and then will start weeping and open up again

is there something I can do to fully heal it?

I'd go and see a GP. Not to alarm you, but my dad had something like this and it was skin cancer. It's probably fine, but get it checked.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 10/05/2024 19:37

Yep - GP

DH's skin cancer looked like a little scab that wouldn't heal

Elieza · 10/05/2024 19:38

Yeah that needs checked out. Easier to fix if they catch it in time whatever it may be.

WorriesMum23 · 10/05/2024 19:55

Thanks - I guess it’s the fact it pretty much fully heals and I have no other symptoms

seeing GP Tuesday so will show her

Hi. Quick update - going for a biopsy on Monday. Does anyone know what that is likely to be involved? Will it be obvious something has happened when people see me? I don’t really want to tell the kids!

They will take a sample of the sore. You will probably have a dressing on it so it will be noticeable so you may have to think of something to tell the kids.

Thank you. I have a really important in person meeting on Tuesday so that’s going to be fun to explain!!

do they take much?

Mine was on my shoulder so I can’t tell you but I think it is quite a small amount. IIRC, I had to keep it dry for a couple of days. They will send it to the lab and if more needs to be removed you will be called back to have that done. I wouldn’t worry about what people think, the most important thing is to get it checked. Good luck!

WorriesMum23 · 18/05/2024 21:21

Thanks for sharing your experience - reassuring!. I don’t have much nose so bit worried about how much they have to take!!

I get cold sores on my nose quite frequently, it couldn't be that could it?

WorriesMum23 · 18/05/2024 21:35

Hi. I had a skin cancer check and they’ve flagged as suspicious so going for biopsy on Monday

Hi OP. Don't worry. It sounds as though it could be a BCC but they are very much the least worrying of skin cancers. Many of us have had them removed. The scab can look a bit ugh for a little while, but I think most people find that within a couple of months it's almost impossible to see where they used to be.

Go see your GP. You can't fix that by yourself.

My husband had that and was referred to the dermatologist. The sore was removed at the hospital. The sooner it's removed, the more straightforward it is.

Yes. My husband's dermatologist said that if you have to get something of that sort, BCC is the best one to get.

WearyAuldWumman · 18/05/2024 23:41

Just to add that the actor Hugh Jackman has had at least a couple removed from his nose: they're very common in Australia.

papadontpreach2me · 19/05/2024 00:05

I have a scab on my nose that won't go away and it's itchy. I've got an appointment on Tuesday with my GP to have it looked at.

Also, i have a holiday booked in a sunny country this summer. I’m not one for sitting in the sun but will I be advised not to go?

OP posts:
RobinHumphries · 19/05/2024 16:02

i don’t think they’ll say don’t go but I think they will be advising factor 50 sunscreen and a hat

WorriesMum23 · 19/05/2024 16:03

Ok! That’s my usual MO so no problem.

thanks for all the help

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 19/05/2024 17:29

Can confirm, OP. My husband was just told to wear factor 50 and a hat. He got himself an Indiana Jones hat! :D
