Epilepsy and sertraline

DS2 (21) has epilepsy which isn't fully controlled by medication. Since Christmas he's had on average one tonic clonic seizure a week, with a couple of atonic and absence seizures as well. I keep an epilepsy diary and realised today that his seizures have almost doubled in the two years he's also been taking sertraline, compared to the two years before that. There is a connection between sertraline and increased seizures in some people, which we discussed with the epilepsy clinic when he first went on it - but the view of the specialist ( and us) at the time was that the risk was worth taking because his anxiety was so debilitating and stress can in itself cause seizures. Has anyone experienced a connection between SSRIs and seizures?
DS is autistic with severe learning disabilities btw, which is why I'm looking into it rather than him. He hasnt ever been able to comply with an EEG.

I'm sorry to hear about your son. Epilepsy really is the pits. I haven't personally experienced them but it was one of the first things my consultant said to me that I should never take SSRIs. I'm not really sure of the alternatives though?

That’s interesting Wizbit. In fact DS is now on Lamotrigine which seems to have a really positive effect on his mood, even though it’s not yet doing much for his seizures. So maybe he doesn’t need the Sertraline? So difficult because he can’t tell us how he’s feeling with any reliability.

I was once told by my epilepsy nurse sertraline isn't recommended for epileptics, she wrote to my gp asking for a change to citopram or similar but my gp refused.

I personally haven't noticed any difference with taking sertraline, I'm currently on 50mg a day plus 125mg x2 daily of Briveracetam. Still a moody cow as my DH puts it Confused
