So I’m 37 and have a lovely little boy who is 3. He also like waking not a lot later than 6am daily. I feel like I need to start paying some attention to myself. I’m feeling shattered, a little unfit and my skin is awful.
I’d also like to gain some weight healthily.

what’s everyone’s tips and hints. For aging skin? (Might be worth saying I have rosacea) also any vitamins, shakes proteins etc?

I’m a newbie and want to stick at something and feel and look like it’s benefited.

Hi op, as a starting point I would recommend:
Lots of water
Good sleep hygiene
Rose facial oil before bed

Bearpawk · 07/05/2024 21:43

Oh and healthy fats for the skin - avo, nuts etc

Fightingtobepositive · 08/05/2024 20:35

@Bearpawk thanks for the reply, good sleep hygiene? Bedding washed regularly (weekly) wet wipe then face wash to remove make up? But stuck on what’s next to help my skin. It’s just looking dull and unloved and that’s without the roseacea flares (lack of sleep from a 3 year old doesn’t help I know)

I feel the same after having my DD (1 this month).

For the last 2 months I've been using a cleanser, toner and moisturiser (I use Elemis cleansing balm, tropics toner and kiehls moisturiser) religiously with a soft facial muslin cloth. It's really made a change to my skin. I also use 2 of the ordinary brand serums (have a look on their website and it'll tell you what you need for your skin concerns, they are really reasonably priced too).

I can also fully recommend tropic sun drops, a bit pricey but I mix 3 drops with my moisturiser twice a week and rarely wear any make up other than mascara now as it gives me a really healthy glow.

If you want nice skin, don't use wet wipes.

It's all about diet

Lots of veg
Lots of water
Little alcohol and upf

Healthy Mediterranean type diet, ie lots of plants, a fair bit of protein, moderate amounts of healthy fats, dairy and unrefined carbs. No UPF.

Limited or no alcohol.

Regular, preferably daily exercise, both weight training and cardio.

Hobbies and doing interesting stuff that give you joy and/or nourish the soul.

Skin care along the lines suggested by @elm26 - and using SPF.

Tretinoin- I rave about it to everyone! It's a prescription skincare you can get online in the uk from skin&me or dermatica. It's a game changer!

I have a pic two years apart and the changes are phenomenal. Evened my skin tone, reduced blemishes, glowy skin. There are lots of Facebook groups where you can ask questions and see before and after pics

Powderblue1 · 09/05/2024 06:21

Oh and spf 50 religiously after your moisturiser!

If you've got rosacea, save up and go and see someone to laser it. No point spending on creams, acids, tret etc - your face will fall off. I find a cerave cleanser, avene water spray, and cicaplast cream does the job and doesn't flair my rosacea.

Google sleep hygiene and start with that.
Cut out/down obvious sugar (don't go mad, just things like cola, cake, biscuits) and booze. Maybe take a months worth of a general multivitamin to top up levels.

Start with that and after a couple of months, see how you feel and add in anything else.

Thanks all. Some really great advice here! I’m going look into.

yes I’m pretty healthy with food and drink very balanced diet. Lots of fresh foods and nutritious. But do treat at the weekend with a bottle of wine and a takeaway. So maybe cut down on that!
