Old scan results. Could this be why my periods are so painful? Any sonographers or medics?

I requested my medical records and see this from 2015.

I was never told this, what exactly does it mean? And could this be the reason that my periods are so painful?

I am NOT a medic

Nevertheless, reading this I see fibroids and adenomyosis mentioned, both are linked to heavy periods.
The polycystic ovaries I assume are PCOS, which is also serious and related to other serious conditions as well.

I would go back, get a new scan and see if medication or surgery is needed. Medication for the polycystic ovaries is mentioned at the end of this report.

As I interpret this, the fibroids and adenomyosis were "small" when discovered, but this may have become a bigger problem over time? I would go back to a GP or specialist, get a new scan and on the back of that a treatment plan.

Best of luck!

P.S. and complain that you weren't told this!
How many times did you go back for period pains?

RositaB · 07/05/2024 21:06

I've not really been back as I just thought this is how it is but it's definitely gotten worse over the years.

I don't have heavy periods but they're extremely painful the first day of my cycle.

@StarsandStones PCOS is rarely serious or cause serious diseases. About 10% of women have it.

The report does not say that PCOS needs medication either. It says that hormone levels should be looked at in order to correlate a diagnosis of PCOS.

Please don't scare people or give wrong medical advice.

StarsandStones · 07/05/2024 21:49

@Boombatty thanks for your reply.

Nevertheless I would go back.

Progesterone was advised and I assumed not prescribed... although this is a hormone, I classed this as medication. Indeed not for the PCOS. I was too quick with responding.

Do you know what cycle day this was? 5.1 is thin for an endometrium (the lining) if you are towards the end of your cycle. I have very light, painful periods and have realised whilst doing IVF its because I get a thin lining. If you google thin lining you will see online it talks about that causing painful periods.

lemons44 · 07/05/2024 21:56

By the way I am not a medical professional in anyway I just recognised the endometrium measurement as I'm having that taken all the time with IVF

Boombatty · 07/05/2024 22:18

It looks to me as though progesterone is being suggested in order to bring on a withdrawal bleed?

I agree though that it is definitely worth getting advice on this. Another scan may be needed to see if fibroids have progressed. This was 10 years ago after all!
