I had a virus about six weeks ago and during it my palms started itching. Not long after I started to develop hives which have become increasingly worse and have been head to foot at times. I’ve tried two different antihistamines at the maximum dose. I can’t find a trigger although they mainly appear about 7pm onwards.
My joints are swollen as well - especially knuckle joints.
It has been in my mouth, my eyes, my ears and in my throat because my voice is croaky.

Then randomly last Thursday it suddenly massively improved and I thought thank god.

But last night it was back and it’s all over my legs and feet and arms this morning.

The only thing I can think is it’s autoimmune (I have an autoimmune condition already), stress or nickel. I had a necklace my dd gave me and I’d been wearing it non-stop until Wednesday night. I took it off Wednesday night because the rash was so uncomfortable. Yesterday I wore earrings for the first time in forever and they’d have likely had nickel. But wouldn’t the allergy be concentrated where the nickel was?

Can anyone help me? I’m so fed up with it. I can’t sleep because it’s so uncomfortable and when it’s in my eyes it looks dreadful.

pictures show how it is and it is bad!

Is that hives? A couple of years ago I suddenly experienced an outbreak of hives for several months. I just took AH and it eventually went away. But mine didn’t look like that, they weren’t red ringed at all.

Have you spoken to a GP? It sounds miserable.

It is hives.
I spoke to a GP and they prescribed steroids which I’m reluctant to take because they will affect my other autoimmune condition but I will have to I think.
I was hoping to avoid as it seemed better on Thursday, Friday and Saturday but this morning it is unbearable again.

It sounds like you need a referral to a consultant that can consider all your needs. But good luck with that…….

I hope it gets better soon.

Have you thought that it could be rheumatoid arthritis? Considering rashes and swollen joints are symptoms.

TraitorsGate · 08/05/2024 18:53

What auto immune illness have you got, is it aflare up, did the doctor arrange bloods, it looks really uncomfortable for you. No new detergents, sprays, lotions?

I am interested to know the outcome of this. I am 10 weeks pregnant and have the exact same. Rash and joint swelling that comes on at 7pm to 11am. My CRP inflammation marker is 60 from a blood test. Antihistamines are not helping.

Is there any chance it could be Parvovirus? That can cause rashes that come and go for a few weeks and joint pain and swelling. It’s doing the rounds atm. It’s normally a childhood illness that’s pretty mild, but can cause more unpleasant symptoms in adults. Worth checking with the doctor, as you would need keeping a close eye on if you have this during pregnancy.

That looks like Ringworm to me but I'm not medically trained

Soonenough · 13/07/2024 23:00

Hope it is not shingles .

Wizardcalledoz · 13/07/2024 23:02

Have you tried taking the jewellery off again since to see if it makes a difference?

MostlyGhostly · 13/07/2024 23:16

I have the exact same symptoms and identical rash and have had them for months. I’m currently waiting on the results of blood tests. GP has suggested rheumatoid arthritis and lupus as possibilities but need to see what comes back

NoDishiRishi · 13/07/2024 23:29

Vasculitis? There's lots of different types but would warrant autoimmune bloods and a ref to rheum

Lifeisgood1 · 13/07/2024 23:44

Urticaria vasculitis.
