Feeling light-headed, dizzy and nauseous all the time? Any ideas why?

Been having dizzy spells when I stand up too quickly for a few weeks now. More recently I seem to be feeling light-headed and dizzy most of the time and , over the last few days, am now feeling sick and queasy too.

I'm not pregnant so rule that one out now.

I have had a cold/flu type thing since last Fri but over the worst of that now (also the dizziness started before I was ill with that)

I'm getting really hacked off with it now especially the nausea as at least when you get it with pregnancy you have something to look forward to at the end.

Any ideas whats causing it? Will it just pass? I don't want to go to GP for him just to say its a virus and it will pass in time.

I'd go to your GP, to have BP and HR checked.

Go to the GP and ask if you have labyrinthitis you poor thing. Infection of the inner ear, vile, makes you all of what you describe.

BettySpaghetti · 02/04/2008 20:57

Really marina? I've heard of that but presumed it came with pain in the ear too? I've not got pain.

I'll go and google it.

thanks

Anaemia can make you light-headed & queasy, especially if getting up quickly or going upstairs or you could have an ear infection that upsets the balance, leaving you feeling vaguely travel sick. Since obviously I'm not a doctor (I don't think watching Casualty qualifies) it would be worth going to the gp to get it checked out.

I was like this about a month ago for 2/3 weeks, I felt like I was in the early stages of pregnancy although I knew it was impossible.
I deduced it was the pill! I'd just started taking it again after 2 babies in quick sucession and it was making me feel dreadful. A few others I have spoken to have had a similar experience when taking the pill after having a baby........Could that be a possibility??

I just had a look on nhsdirect site and it certainly does sound like it could be Labyrinthitis -I'm a bit daunted at the prospect of it lasting for s few weeks though.

Will try and get a GP appt.

Go to your GP ASAP - I had something just like this this for months and months and was really dehabilitating. Turned out just to be an inner ear thing and and was easily solved with medication in a very short time. I thought I had a brain tumour (!hypochondriac smiley).

babblington · 02/04/2008 21:25

Actually - easy way to tell is if nausea and seasickness feeling goes away when you lie down for a while. If it does it's an inner ear thing (infection or other) if it doesn't then something is amiss between your eyes and your brain - but not necessarily serious, just can't think of a better way of putting it!

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 02/04/2008 21:26

could be the inner ear thing as above, but also low blood sugar and anaemia. i get this occasionally and tbh medicate myself to a certain extent.

peasoup · 02/04/2008 21:27

I had this about five months after DS's birth and ran screaming back to my Gp thinking "Oh my lord, I cannot be pregnant again so soon!!" It felt like early pregnancy. What it turned out to be was an underactive thyroid. A condition that had been caused by my pregnancy. I was put on Thyroxin to replace the thyroid hormone that my thyroid was no longer creating. Get your thyroid checked out. i had dizziness as a symptom amd feeling all weak and whoozy

Twiglett · 02/04/2008 21:30

i've got labrynthitis .. but it's viral and has to burn itself out (am feeling much better now)

doc prescribed a drug that is supposed to remove the symptoms (I didn't take it 'cos I have an issue with taking medication sometimes) .. so go to docs if only to get the pills

fondant4000 · 02/04/2008 21:30

I also had these symptoms when anaemic - as I was for about a year after dd1 and dd2.

I guess the symptoms could be due to many things - your GP needs to check you out

BettySpaghetti · 02/04/2008 21:37

Sounds like quite a few things it could be so I will go to GP to be checked out.

I've had an awful month so partly wondered if it could be stress related or due to not eating/sleeping properly.

I've felt like this for a few weeks, a couple of people I work with have it also, presumed it was a bug.

BettySpaghetti · 03/04/2008 10:24

UPDATE -well I went to the GPs this morning and she thinks its Labyrinthitis.

Shes prescribed some tablets to help control the dizziness and nausea which I'm going to give a go as I just want to be able to feel "normal" again. She did say though that it could be something else thats causing it so if it doesn't improve to go back.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

Twiglett -glad yours is getting better now. How long have you had it for? Is it something you've had before?
