Teenager period pain

Hi, my 12 year old has started her period and it's terribly painful...cramps continually for 2 days, used paracetamol and ibuprofen but didn't help much. Heat pack was good. Planning ahead for next month. I had awful pains too, still do sometimes, I used all the usual OTC painkillers...ibuprofen, feminax...but they didn't help. The doc prescribed ponstan which helped but is quite strong I think, and not OTC. I found that veganin helped - but I'm wondering if there are any more modern offerings now? Thanks!

I find liquid ibuprofen works better and faster than powdered capsules for me, no idea why. With paracetamol, I have to eat something with it to stop me throwing up.

More randomly perhaps, if it's bad at night I find I'm more comfortable sleeping on the sofa than in bed. I tend to get up, take the meds, make a hot water bottle and a non-caffeinated hot drink like a fruity tea or hot water and lemon to reset myself a bit and then snuggle down on the sofa with a blanket above and below me. It's something about the back of the sofa supporting my back and holding me in one place curled up more comfortably that I find it far easier to get back to sleep and stay asleep than tossing and turning in bed. If pain is back/kidney area, can also jam the hot water bottle between you and the back of the sofa so it stays there.
