Pain in Tailbone after Delivery

So, I've just had a normal delivery although the labour was quite long—it's my second child—and I'm really struggling with this awful pain in my tailbone, in my coccyx. I didn't have any pain during the pregnancy; it all started after giving birth. The pain is quite bad, especially when I'm sitting. I haven't spoken to anyone about it yet. I'm still breastfeeding, so I'm a bit hesitant to take any medication. Has anyone else experienced this, or could the labour itself have caused an issue with the coccyx?

Thanks for all the advice! I agree about the coccyx manipulation. I looked it up on Google and it seems really intimate. 😬 I mean, I might have lost my dignity giving birth after hanging in there for 7 hours of labor, but this manipulation just feels a bit too much for me. 😅

I know how painful a bruised/out of place coccyx can be. I slipped on a polished floor as a teen and landed on mine. Was in so much pain on a regular basis for years. After giving birth for the first time I had no more pain ever and the whole area felt totally different. I assume my son did me a favour and pushed everything back into place! Not much help to you though OP sorry! Maybe if you have another baby they might oblige by sorting yours out! 😁

I had this for about 4 years after DC4 was born. It used to be agony sometimes after getting up from sitting. It was googling about treatment and manipulation that put me off seeking help. Eventually and thankfully it just stopped hurting.

@DawnBreaks After having two kids and all that comes with it, there's no way I'm going for a third, not even in my dreams! 😓

Mine was fractured during a quick forceps delivery, physio wasn't able to help and I decided to see it it would settle before looking into further treatment. It's not a quick recovery but it will get better.
My recommendation would be a wedge cushion rather than a doughnut one. The wedge has a cut out to take the pressure off your coccyx x

Wow this has just reminded me that I had this really badly after my second child! I was told that my coccyx had possibly even moved, and it was really sensitive. It must have stopped hurting at some point though as DC is now over 3 and I had forgotten about it. So there is hope!

Stephen Sandler, Sandler Osteo on Harley Street.

I was in an amazing amount of pain with this. The xray showed the last bone in my coccyx was displaced probably a result of my DD1's birth. It is also a common injury from anal sex.

There are very few people who are able to do the necessary osteopathic treatment because it involves manipulation where the sun don't shine. For me Stephen Sandler was amazing. I saw him once and I'm so glad I did. He is semi retired. He will also teach a
Very effective exercise to replace kegels.

I never mentioned mine because I didn't think it was a thing! I gave birth on my back, I think I was too exhausted for any other position after 5 days of induction, 2 failed epidurals and 10 hours of active labour. I remember a horrendous burning, achy, stabbing pain at the top of my bum/coccyx when I was cuddling DD and being stitched. It lasted on and off a couple of weeks and then died off.
