Bad cough causing frequent vomiting and rivers of snot in 6m old - top tips?

My poor dd3 (6.5m) has had a horrible cough for a week or so which is causing her to bring up varying amounts of most of her milk feeds and she is also bunged up with snot making her whole head all congested and mucusy.

Am reluctant to take to Gp yet as snot is mainly clear so I don't think its a chest infection and she seems ok in herself if very sad and tired.

Any top tips on:

Anything to ease couging so that she can keep stuff down long enough to digest and also get some decent sleep?

Any meds I can give to dry up snot?

Would food be better than milk in terms of staying down - I am offering her smooth porridge when she fancies it - BLW on hold for now!

Any other tips you have used to get your LOs through similar?

If she is old enough to take Medised (I think she is) I would recommend this, it has antihistamine in it to help dry up snot, and also is very good at promoting sleep! My ds also pukes alot with a cough/cold and I have found this helps.

Also we use a plug in vapouriser, and raise one end of the cot. Hope this helps.

Is your dd breast fed? Or ff? I found that cutting the dairy was the only way I could get rid of the sort of cold you are describing w ds around christmas time (combined with that lovely vomit bug that was going around!). Theory is that snot will go (or at least get better) if dairy is cut out of diet. Poor lad got fed bottles of oatley instead (oat based milk drink that dh makes morning smoothies with), which he enjoyed, but certainly didn't fill him up like milk did.
Grated apple good for sore tummies and really plain easy to digest food. Also, little and often. Putting him in steamy bathroom for a while also helps get snot moving and out of his system. good luck!

(sorry, put HER in bathroom!)

The fact that your dd doesn't have multicoloured snot is not always an indication that it's not a chest infection. I would be inclined to go to the doctors just to make sure.
I say this as my ds has a horrid rattly cough and mucous and has a chect infection (I could guess this myself) BUT my dd has no symptoms but was just really listless and sleepy - I took her to get her looked at as she just wasn't right and it turns out that she also has a chest infection! She doesn't even have a cough though but she was obviously not herself.
The only way to rule it out is to get her to a gp (IMHO)
