Its an easy process and could save a life. Please have a look at the website www.anthonynolan.org.uk

Lets see if we can make a difference

I registered about 2 years ago when a little girl in our community was very poorly - so did DH

Very worthwhile.

Winetimeisfinetime · 02/04/2008 11:01

What a coincidence sparkleymummy - I started a thread saying the same thing a couple of minutes before you.

Podmog, is that definately correct? I've arranged for the company I work for to run a recruitment clinic in a few weeks through Anthony Nolan to get more people to join the register. I don't want to be costing the NHS more money. When I've searched the internet about this I've found that Anthony Nolan held a clinic about joining their register at an NHS hospital in January of this year - surely this wouldn't be encouraged if it was to cost the NHS more money? This could all just be confusion on my part - which I apologise in advance for! Thanks for your help.

mymatemax · 02/04/2008 12:02

Ive registered through the blood donors, transfusion service, very simple, easy & painless.

Can we also add a reminder for people (if able) to give blood too!
ds2'S Life was saved several times by donated blood, maybe it was a mumsnetter??

pigeonpastie · 02/04/2008 15:54

.

Elibean · 02/04/2008 19:39

Bumping for you.

I would, but can't (history of hepatitis, even though treated and gone, disqualifies me from any sort of donation ).

hippipotami · 02/04/2008 20:53

I am registered as a bone marrow donor with the national blood donor register.

Well done to those of you who are signing up.

Winetimeisfinetime · 03/04/2008 11:30

Bump in the hopes that others read this and sign up.

SkipToMyLou · 13/11/2009 11:39

Bumping this for a little boy I know, and for everyone out there who needs a bone marrow transplant.

www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=165480795962&ref=mf

Please register if you're eligible, I'm not because of autoimmune issues. Can't give blood either because I've had a transfusion - thank you to the people who give blood otherwise I wouldn't be here now, if you are able please give blood too.

Thanks!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 13/11/2009 11:46

So worthwhile. I am on the ANBMR but live in Switzerland where we can't even give blood because we may have BSE. I think that there is an upper age limit though. I joined around 20 odd years ago in my early twenties and think that they want donors of bone marrow to be less than 45.

SkipToMyLou · 13/11/2009 11:53

Yes, the age limit is 40 but if you join before then, you stay on the register until you're 60.

SkipToMyLou · 13/11/2009 11:54

And even if you can't register/donate, please spread the word! Thanks!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 13/11/2009 11:57

I'll send an email to all my RL friends in the UK, not worth me even enquiring here, I could be a mad cow FFS.

MavisEnderby · 13/11/2009 12:01

Bump.Maybe a little more needed about process of becoming a BMD,very worthwile but feel the full picture is needed about having a BMB even though a very worthwile cause and donors are desperately needed.

SkipToMyLou · 13/11/2009 13:20

I was looking into signing up when I feel pregnant again.

Intend to begin giving blood an sign up once I've had this baby...

It was this that brought Bone Marrow donation to my attention.

SkipToMyLou · 13/11/2009 17:20

Bumping

SkipToMyLou · 13/11/2009 21:08

And again!

chegirl · 13/11/2009 21:21

Hi everyone. Thanks for this thread sparkley

Take a look at my profile please.

There is a picture of my DD.

She was 12 when she was diagnosed with luekemia. She died aged 14. The search for a bone marrow match was unsuccessful.

Its her birthday on 20th January. She would have been 18.

Thanks to all of you who take the step.
A lot.
