Cut on face - would you take her to GPs

DD fell yesterday evening and grazed her cheek near her eye. Graze was about size of 10p. I cleaned it and put on an invisible plaster. This morning it looks much larger and her cheek and her eye are swollen. She says it is very painful and it looks very red. Would you try to a get a GP appt or is this normal?

Do you have a hospital with a minor injuries unit ( I don't mean A & E btw) if you do, it might be an idea to get them to have a look - just to rule out anything major.

It does sound fairly normal, most cuts and scrapes are swollen and sore the next day, aren't they?

But if she is in a lot of pain I'd definitely think about taking her to see a doctor. But if you take her to the gp, I suspect they will only refer her to A & E anyway.

I'd definitely see a doctor. I had to have stitches in my chin after falling once (as an adult ). Would have had permanent scarring otherwise.

I did expect it to be swollen but the graze is now about 3x the original size. Is that normal? I can't rememebr it happening before but it is a real 'side along the pavement taking the skin as you go' type cut.

Get it checked out. If you can't see the GP the practice nurse would be fine, in fact she would probably be a better option as she will know more about wounds. If she fell and grazed it she might still have something in it. You don't want her developing impetigo on her face. Poor little thing

I'd see a Dr. Might need a course of antibiotics just to be on safe side? Won't hurt to check. Hope she feels better soon.

yes go to docs to check it

Ringing surgery now to ask for appointment with practice nurse.

You need to see someone, be it GP or minor injuries. Swelling and inflammation around eye risks spreading to eye so suggest you get it looked out to be on the safe side. Hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for the advice - She has an appointment this afternoon. I just needed confirmation I wasn't over reacting. Thanks.

Well done, I'm sure you will either be reassured OR she will get the treatment she needs wether that's abs or just a good wound clean and dressing
