I'm holding on phone for a doc appt, do you think it can wait til this afternoon, or should I try to get a.m. appt?

He has a cold, and had a slightly gunky eye the other day. No redness or anything.

OK - I have an appt for this a.m.

Any idea what this could be though? Looks kind of like an allergy thing, but he hasn't been in contact with anything new (AFAIK)

Sounds like an eye infection to me. How old is your ds?

My ds is 18 months and often has a watery eye (one is much worse than other). This is because he has a membrane across the duct that drains the eye into the back of the nose. All babies have this membrane but they are supposed to go and his hasn't. This means he is more prone to eye infections especially in that eye. It's not quite conjunctivitus though.

The consultant we saw said not treatment was necessary yet, just wipe with damp cotton wool when infected. We did resort to antibiotic drops once but they didn't really help it clear up any quicker.

Definitely worth getting it checked but prob. nothing to worry about.

Thanks dilbertina He's 20 months old.

If he doesn't have watery eye generally prob. not the membrane thing, but still quite likely to be an infection. The doc will also check he hasn't got an ingrowing eyelash or something in his eye. Don't panic though! I'd have thought it's unlikely to be an allergy if only affecting one eye.
Good luck!

Yes, I think you're right re: the allergy thing. He seems fine in himself. I just feel a bit bad that it's taken nearly 3 hours of being awake to actually notice it (I think it was puffy when he woke up, but I thought he was just smiling wonkily or something).

Well, I guess if it was really bothering him you would have noticed because he'd have been complaining and rubbing his eye a lot! It doesn't sound like he's suffering - so don't feel bad!
