Lump in groin area

Hello all, hoping for some advice. I noticed a large hard lump in my groin area a few days ago, decided just to keep an eye on it for a while and book a GP appointment if it didn’t resolve. Today a large area around the lump is red, swollen and quite warm to the touch. I don’t want to overreact when I feel completely fine. Does this need immediate attention or can it wait until I can see a GP?

Is it under the skin or an actual red lump?
Ive just had a groin hernia repair but it was never red or anything.

The lump is under the skin, you can’t see it, only feel it. It’s quite large, probably around an inch long. The redness is quite a big area of my inner thigh that is visibly swollen and red. Thanks for your response.

If its red and warm it might be an abcess, is it in your bikini line, could it have started from a hair

It's likely a bartholin's cyst.

You'll need antibiotics if it gets painful.

I'm currently suffering my 4th one and hoping I started antibiotics early enough to stop the agony I suffered the last couple of times.

If it’s under the skin, ie just normal flesh over it, I would get it looked at asap. I’d be worried about strangulated hernia.,

Thank you all. Sounds like it might be worth getting it looked at sooner rather than later!

Yes, could have started from a hair and I thought that might be what it was when I first saw it a few days ago. The redness and heat across my thigh made me question if it needed some attention more urgently.
