Pain in neck will not go away!

About a week and a half ago I woke up in agony with a severe pain in the back of my neck. Pain was worse when i turned my head a certain way. I managed to get some relief from an electronic massage type thing but never got to 100%. I'm sure my pillows are causing this but I struggle to find pillows that suit me.

Anyway, pain was getting better and then yesterday morning same thing happened. Now I'm back to square one. Pain hurts most when I turn my head to the right and when I bend down. It's almost like my neck can't support the weight of my head if you get what I mean?

I've tried hot baths and massage. Not sure what else I can do but it's really starting to get me down because it's interfering with day to day life. Even something like stacking the dishwasher hurts.

Does anyone have any advice? Do I need to see a physio? I know I need new pillows but that's going to take a while as I never seem to be able to buy the right one from the start. This pain is really starting to get me down!

Microwaveable head pad, nurofen and some exercises maybe or book a massage so they can properly work on the muscles. The best £30 I spent was when I did something to my shoulder and could hardly turn my head to drive, she fixed it in a 20 min back massage. You will possibly be waiting months for nhs physio so I’d buy new pillows sooner rather than later.

It's a slow process but I cured mine with a combination of Indian head massages, heat wraps, an expensive orthopaedic pillow and yoga. I got the best results from yoga to be honest, all the gentle stretching I guess.

Thanks both, all really good suggestions. I'll do the exercises and try and book in for a massage next week if it's no better. I'm actually booked on for yoga tonight as I thought it might help. The search for the illusive perfect pillow continues, which is becoming a recurrent theme throughout my life. Annoying because DH could sleep with his head on a brick and have absolutely no issues!

I came onto health to post the same kind of question. Can barely turn my neck. Heat pads help a little but ibuprofen and paracetamol not touching it. I've no does what I've done 😣

I feel for you! It's horrible. I just want to crack on with my day to day stuff but every time I move it hurts. Neck pain has eased ever so slightly this morning since adjusting my pillows last night but now I have a shoulder pain on the opposite side meaning if I raise my arm up I'm in pain from that too. Very annoying!

I'm going to book in for a massage. I'm not even 40 yet and dreading this becoming a regular occurrence as I age. I do yoga, weights and exercise classes to try and counter act these issues. I might have to accept that I'm just going to have these issues every now and again.
