Need to have a blood test done on a day I have my toddlers with me - is it really wrong to take them?

Am I completely mad to contemplate it? Am trying to ttc and doctor has just ordered various tests including blood test on day 21 of my cycle.

That day I am going to the doctors anyway to have their innoculations done and see the health visitor and it would be a lot easier to book my blood test in as well.

Is it a bit scary for kids to see blood being taken? I could distract them with books etc but I don't want to scare them for life!

Any advice gratefully recieved - we don't have anyone else who could watch them for me.

I agree Pooka, it's good to normalise these sorts of medical procedures.

I'm a practice nurse and find that when children come to the surgery with mum/dad/granny especially for procedures that may be painful (eg bloods, injections) they are less fearful when they have to return for themselves. (Assuming the adult is calm for their injection!)

Parents can project their own fears and experiences onto children. It makes me cross when they bring children for their pre-school boosters and say things like "the nurse has got to give you a nasty injection" or afterwards "oh, did the nasty nurse hurt you?". I think it's much better to be honest with children (even young ones) and say that they need an injection, it will sting for a moment and then it's all done.
