@CrunchyCarrot, but she is also splitting the dose.

Oh my mistake! 😳That'll teach me to reply early in the morning! Sorry yes of course she is also splitting the dose during the day. That's the first time I've heard of someone doing that, however some folks are very reactive to Levo. As they say, everyone is different.

Thats interesting . Im on 200mg. Does that mean my thyroid isnt working at all i wonder

I don’t know if there’s a correlation between build and thyroxine dose but I’m v short.
i had started in 150mcg but it affected my sleep badly.
200mcg is the most I’ve heard friends/ family take.

That's not splitting your dose. That's an alternate day dose regime, ideally you would take around 44 mcg daily but dividing up pills to give that amount would be impossible, so easier to take 50 mcg one day and 37.5 mcg the next. Splitting a dose means dividing it up on a daily basis.

As my post said, I am also splitting the dose by taking one pill in the morning and the second before I go to bed. So I'm alternating days, and splitting each dose daily.

@CrunchyCarrot just saw your last post 🙈. I'm am VERY reactive to thyroxine, can only tolerate wockhardt brand and splitting works generally. Although after reading this post, I'm tempted to experiment with taking it all together again as I wonder if its part of the reason why I don't sleep great.

It's unlucky you are so reactive, maybe it's one of the excipients rather than thyroxine itself? Poor sleep is often part and parcel of hypothyroidism, though. Waking at 2-3 a.m. then unable to get off again or waking many times during the night.

My own experience of hypothyroid medication has been one of experimentation! It can be very frustrating indeed. I do sleep better now but that's down to taking vitamin B2 and B12, that made a big difference. However I never get the refreshing sleep I used to get.

That’s exactly how I feel about thyroxine re lack of refreshing sleep. I sometimes think when I’m on my way out of this world I will stop taking thyroxine so I can enjoy refreshing sleep again!

It's not thyroxine that causes unrefreshing sleep, it's lack of active thyroid hormone. Going without it altogether would not help I'm afraid, quite the reverse!

I take all mine in the morning too, as instructed to by my consultant. What's really important is to have it on an empty stomach and not eat for 30 mins - 1 hour afterwards.

This and do not take with other medications either. A sip of water first thing in the morning with it.

notapizzaeater · 26/04/2024 18:14

First thing in the morning with lanzaporole - I queried this after reading somewhere they shouldn't be taken together and was told it's perfectly fine

Sdpbody · 26/04/2024 18:23

I take mine at night just before bed and my bloods are perfect. I've been on it since 2016.

It's really not perfectly fine. Lanzoprazole lowers stomach acid and you need that to absorb Levothyroxine. I wouldn't take them together.
