(dont want anymore negative stories as I get too worried lol)

if it reduced your periods loads, did it reduce pmt at all?

Just wondering if it stops the bleeding it may make the pmt better

or is that just wishful thinking?!!

had an op yesterday and had one put in at the same time

Thanks

yes stopped my periods completely.

rantingwageslave · 01/04/2008 12:33

Yes, no periods, very reduced pmt, although I do get really tender norks once a month, which are uncomfortable enough to make me sleep on my back.

lucykate · 01/04/2008 12:34

yes it has for me, it has also helped with my migraines, they are not as frequent, hth

claricebeansmum · 01/04/2008 12:35

Have had Mirena for 10 years now.
No periods.
No PMT.
No babies.
Bliss!

anniebear · 01/04/2008 12:35

Thats good

I knew theres a good chance of the periods being very light but I was rather kinda hoping for the pmt to go

OP posts:
rantingwageslave · 01/04/2008 12:36

Haven't had a PMT migraine since I've been on it and I used to get them regularly.

anniebear · 01/04/2008 12:40

after you had the Mirena put in, how long did it take for your periods stop?

I had a big polyp removed yesterday, womb biopsy and mirena

I had an unsually long period and was onto about my 10th today

But nothing today at all, just slight period pain (but I have painkillers to take each morn for the next 4 days0

thanks again

IIRC, I had light bleeds for the first couple of months (and I mean light ST light, not worth a tampon) and then they disappeared altogether.

I loved my Mirena - I had it (or 2 separate ones iykwim) for 10 years. No periods, no PMT, no bad side effects, nothing.

However, errrm...I did get pregnant on it. Which scuppered that one (ended up ectopic).

I don't bother with contraception now, apart from condoms, because nothing else agrees with me.

TheSweetLittleBunny · 01/04/2008 12:51

For me Mirena is brilliant. No periods, no PMT, no cramps. On both occasions I have had it my periods stopped immediately apart from very slight spotting for the first two months then nothing. It's wonderful. I have had it in for 3 years and before that it was in for 1 year. I know people say it makes them put on weight - but I don't know how valid that it - people always like to blame something other than themselves don't they.

bellavita · 01/04/2008 12:54

NDTH - your story is very similar to mine. I am in the fourth year now and bleeding has started (not a lot but enough to wear a light tampon) and my pmt has become horrendous.

Did wonder if the hormone is starting to wear off?

MehgaLegs · 01/04/2008 12:54

Have had mine two and a half years. loved it had small blip (nothing serious but nearly had it taken out) now love it again. Periods stopped although a little bleeding in the past few months but not much.

After my blip (trying to be posititve ) i started taking evening primrose oil and felt much better.

rosealbie · 01/04/2008 12:56

My Mirena has been mostly brilliant, my periods stopped after about three months of having it fitted although some months now I can still bleed a little (I've had it about 3 years.

Don't get migraines like I used to.

JossStick · 01/04/2008 13:08

Does anyone know if you can get one fitted if you have cervical erosion?

sweetmonkey · 01/04/2008 14:03

Ah thats great news. Glad you got on ok.

Did you have the cauterisation as well? Thats what i'm having done as well as the hysteroscopy.

I will let you know how i get on

really glad it went ok for you though !!

anniebear · 01/04/2008 14:59

had a large cervical polyp removed, dont know how though lol (hysteroscopy, Mirena, biopsy)

yaz2 · 01/04/2008 14:59

I am going to have the mirena fitted on the 15th of this month but have just been reading some of the previous threads and now I am scared stiff. we have two gorgeous ds but dont want to even think of another for atleast 3-4 years if at all. I am terrible at remembering to take the pill so the coil seemend like a good idea with an added bonus (hopefully) of very light or no period. As my periods are not heavy anyway only about 5 days every 40-45 days its not a major concern. I get very mild PMT sometimes but did nto notice it being any worse when I was on the pill (combination). will Mirena make PMT worse????

anniebear · 01/04/2008 15:04

It is different for everyone , like most things I suppose

for some it has worked and for some it hasnt

OP posts:
yaz2 · 01/04/2008 15:18

I am hoping that as I didn't have any negative effects such as mood swings and weight gain while taking the pill the lower dose of the coil should be just fine...

yaz2 · 01/04/2008 15:19

and how are you feeling now anniebear

anniebear · 01/04/2008 19:06

my periods are just heavy for 1 day and night, last around 5 days, never considered a coil

Consultant just asked me out of the blue when I had my appointment if I wanted one!

Mine certainly isnt it for contraception lol

I did um and arh for a while after reading things on here but in the end went for it as the thought of hardly any period was too good to resist

I was worried as I am on AD's , but was reasurred it wouldnt make a diference

I would say go for it and give it a go, after all it can be taken out

Im ok thanks, just seem very tired this evening and a slight tummy ache, but no bleeding at all

OP posts:
LIZS · 01/04/2008 19:14

hard to tell as had it in after dd so things may have adjusted anyway. However certainly reduces the symptoms overall with slight bleeding , not very month, and an occasional headache beforehand.
