Medised for DD

Mikafan · 01/04/2008 12:07

I went to the pharmacist on Saturday who refused to sell my medised for DD who is 11 months old. I only give it to her occasionally at night, the recommended dose for her age for when she has a cold and has a runny nose. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Surely if it says on the box that its for children 6 months+ and your sensible it should be up to the parents.

calpol works just as well

better in my opinion

Mikafan · 01/04/2008 12:12

karvol is good for that

put some drops on a tissue and tie to side of cot

or put some on a wet flannel and leave on a warm radiator )works well with vicks too)

Mikafan · 01/04/2008 12:16

Have tried that and neither works

they are currently taking lots of cough medicines off the shelf in order to relabel them as for age 2+ (although from what I have read, given at the correct dose these medicines are perfectly safe to give). I always found Childrens nurofen to be more effective than calpol and we also use one of those plug in vaporisers.

nailpolish · 01/04/2008 12:21

ive neve tried the plug in thingy but have heard its good

TillyScoutsmum · 01/04/2008 12:22

Calpol Night has similar ingredients to Medised (i.e. paracetamol and an anti histamine to help with blocked nose) Bit that they refused to sell it though ... Maybe try somewhere else

Mikafan · 01/04/2008 12:31

I've tried the plug in vapouriser before aswell, that doesn't do anything either.

Seona1973, Medised isn't strictly speaking a cough medicine.

TillyScountsmum, I'll try that thanks.

isnt it one of the medicines that have now been banned though? calpol night too

TillyScoutsmum · 01/04/2008 12:34

I don't think so ...? I got it from Sainsbury pharmacy yesterday for my 11 month old.. Thought it was just cough medicines

Mikafan · 01/04/2008 13:00

In that case Medised shouldn't be banned as its not a cough medicine.

What?!?!?

TillyScoutsmum · 01/04/2008 13:15

Apologies to Nailpolish - Medised and Calpol Night are indeed on the list here

SydneyB · 01/04/2008 13:18

Oh my god, but I'm about to run out of Medised. This is AWFUL!

TillyScoutsmum · 01/04/2008 13:22

They're under the counter and will only be sold for children over 2

Mikafan · 01/04/2008 13:38

Thats exactly what I thoughts Tilly, its a ridiculous situation really because yes, you will just lie about the age of the child its for

OP posts:
nailpolish · 01/04/2008 13:39

its banned for a reason

Mikafan · 01/04/2008 13:40

In my opinion they are being over-cautious.

OP posts:
TillyScoutsmum · 01/04/2008 13:41

It certainly is .... and as far as I can see, its because certain f*kwits give over the recommended dosage or give it to "help them sleep" even if they're not actually ill.. All the research I have read indicates that provided the correct dosage is given, there are no problems.

Mikafan · 01/04/2008 13:42

thats what I heard too Tilly, people giving it to their children to make them sleep - thats awful and has not impacted on responsible parents who just want to help their LO's feel better

OP posts:
Mikafan · 01/04/2008 13:43

sorry, has impacted
