Should I be worried

Having been to the doctor and been dismissed as having nothing wrong, I'm quite paranoid that I'm being silly. However, I just have a gut feeling that something isn't right.
I am so tired all the time. Wake up tired. No energy. My heart rate keeps dipping too. I thought maybe something wrong with my watch? But used the machine we got my dad to check his blood pressure be plus and it gave similar low readings. I'm overweight, not very fit, I do a little bit of exercise but not much. My heart rate keeps dipping during the day down to the 40s.
Resting heart rate averages about 61 but I get these dips.
I was so tired yesterday, I had to pull over in the car. I hadn't done anything to warrant being so tired. Then I noticed my heart rate had dropped then too.
Dr said I had a very healthy heart and that I'm very lucky. It just doesn't feel quite right. Do I battle to get another appointment or am I just being dramatic?

Have you had tests and so on? Do you have health anxiety? It's hard to say if you should be concerned or accept what the doctor has told you. I had a feeling something wasn't quite right (tests always perfect) and eventually got diagnosed with something that explains it all incidentally. Not of real concern and nothing major, but an answer none the less. On the other hand, if you have health anxiety, you may be worrying needlessly.

A second opinion is always an option.

Have you been checked for hypothyroidism?
Dip and/or low HR and fatigue fit the bill.

yesthatsmyactualname · 21/04/2024 23:07

I've never been particularly anxious. I do have a chronic illness and the last time I thought something wasn't quite right, i ended the week in intensive care having had major surgery and sepsis. I suppose that has put me more on edge.
I just spoke to a doctor over the phone. He dismissed the heart rate though so I presume that I am just very lucky.
I just can't shake the feeling that there is something wrong. Even though I don't know what.
I just know I could sleep for Britain! So, so tired!

No I haven't. I should maybe remind them that I had thyroiditis last year. I hadn't even thought of that.

Have they checked your iron levels? B12 and folate?

PrettyPines · 21/04/2024 23:09

I had similar and it was hashimotos. I felt so weak I couldn't walk from my house to the car, such a horrible feeling. Hope it's something similar and you're feeling better soon.

PuppetQueen · 21/04/2024 23:09

I think it sounds like hypothyroidism too. I had a very slow pulse when I had this, plus extreme lethargy - it was like walking through treacle.

RainIsCosy · 21/04/2024 23:10

How old are you? Perimenopause can wipe your energy a bit. Of course you don't want them to write it off as that when it might not be.

I do understand though. I go through times when I am exhausted and need a nap at times. I eventually got diagnosed with a gut problem.

yesthatsmyactualname · 21/04/2024 23:13

No checks or tests. Just spoke to GP on the phone who said "of course you are tired. You work, have 2 kids and a busy life."
He felt that because I was still managing to work meant that it wasn't true lethargy.

Early 40s and perimenopausal. Periods have been irregular recently.

They should surely at least be doing full tests, including iron studies, full blood counts, metabolic tests, thyroid, etc if you haven't had tests in the last year.

Speak to a different doctor. He is dismissing your symptoms and I don't think he should be.

Your blood pressure shouldn't be dropping that far.

Seconded. You have every right for a second opinion.

CrunchyCarrot · 22/04/2024 07:28

Your doctor dismissed your low heart rate?? That's crazy. A heart rate in the 40s is dangerously low. Also you are the best judge of your own fatigue level. You don't need to be told by a GP that 'you have 2 kids and a job so of course you feel tired'. How rude. Your instincts are right, you know whether your fatigue level is normal or something else.

I would get thyroid levels thoroughly checked, along with a full iron panel, full blood count, Vit D. The list goes on, but when getting a thyroid check make sure it includes TSH, FT4, FT3, TPO and TG antibodies. Medichecks does a finger prick blood test you can get analysed. There are other companies who do similar kits. It's difficult to get all these parameters tested by going to a GP so this is your best bet if you can afford it.

Spoke to a different doctor today who is sending me for a fasting blood test as well as an ecg, pulse check, blood pressure check and weight check.
She asked if my watch was taking my heart rate as we spoke on the phone...it was. At that point, my heart rate was at 40.
The tests aren't until next week as those were the first available appointments but at least I wasn't patronised today.

That's really good news OP, at least you are being taken seriously! I hope the tests will get to the bottom of what's going on. Please let us know!

yesthatsmyactualname · 02/05/2024 23:12

Had my appointment. Of course, I had been running around to get things done before the appointment so my pulse and blood pressures were in a normal range.
I'm now desperately hoping my blood tests show something is not right.

Good that's got the ball rolling

Piratesofponies · 20/05/2024 18:03

I am having the same thing happening to me and I.dont know what to do, as cardiology discharged me after 48 hour EKG and made no mentions of these dips but I am still seeing them. I am worried they are what caused the raised enzymes that showed heart distress. They ruled out a small heart attack but its still happening and it must be connected. I was hoping it could be thyroid but it's shows as TSH 1.6 which I think is normal. Let us know how you get on please, and best wishes
