I am wiped out after a recent virus. Have a few days off work to recover. Am unsure what is best...is it more effective to rest completely ie be laid up in bed? I'm worried this doesn't ready me for returning to work, so have been getting up, showering, pottering around. But I don't feel like I'm getting better, should I go back to bed?

Rest. Rest and sleep and drink and a lot of water and eat good food.

Definitely rest. You'll recover more quickly if you don't try to push it. You're not skiving, you're resting and recovering.

I've got long covid. At least partly according to my GP as a result of doing too much too soon. I was too worried people would think badly of me if I didn't pick up and get back to work asap. Don't be like me Flowers

Thank you. And I'm so sorry to hear that @MassiveOvaryaction - that's something I'm worried about. Can I ask how you were diagnosed?
I feel so low mentally when I'm not up and about. But I know it's the sensible thing to do.

Thanks for the sympathy. It was a diagnosis of exclusion really. Was just exhausted and went to the GP (had been back to work since the covid for a bit but then became too exhausted to even go downstairs never mind walk out to the car and drive to work. Had millions of blood tests, and then a few weeks later when I wasn't feeling better had even more (autoimmune, glandular fever, hep a/B/c, even HIV among others). GP then referred to the long covid clinic for their opinion and I was picked up by them pretty quickly and they agreed that was what it was.

I'm used to and really enjoy running a few times a week and going on long walks/hikes and we're coming up to the time where I'd be regularly swimming in the sea. I really have no clue when I'll be able to do any of these again. I'm not sure I feel low or depressed but I'm damn sure I feel very pissed off!

Hope you're rested and feeling much better soon Flowers

Of course it's better to rest. However don't forget about small physical activities such as a regular walk for 10-20 minutes a day a couple of days after rest. This way I replenished my strength faster after Covid-19. Also, multivitamin complexes helped me personally (there are a lot of them on the market and about all of them act the same way).
