Echo Scan results scared

I saw the cardiologist last week for my echocardiogram results and he said basically it wasn't a normal result but he never sees a textbook echocardiogram!!
He didn't say much but he did say when I asked more that I had a trivial leaking heart valve..now that scared me witless
He said it wouldn't bother me for 20/30 years! I am now obviously very worried but sort of reassured that he doesn't seem worried.
I was originally in cardiology for fast heart rate and ectopic beats
Anyone had this shown on an echocardiogram and are ok.. can't stop thinking about it and if I google it I'll panic if I read anything bad
TIA

I have moderate mitral valve regurgitation and my cardiologist is completely not bothered by it. It’s quite common to have a bit of a leaky valve apparently.

Yes, I’ve had regular echos for decades now, due to a family heart condition affecting valves. I have a prolapsing mitral valve, so it’s ‘floppy’ and sometimes doesn’t close properly. In my own experience, there’s been nothing to worry about at all with trivial leaking. While sometimes it gradually gets worse, sometimes it resolves instead. I had trivial leaking for years, it got worse during pregnancy but since then seems to have completely resolved. Like you, I had fast beats and ectopics for years; never get anything now. Knowing what I do now, in your position I wouldn’t be at all concerned. I’ve been absolutely fine, and asymptomatic apart from during pregnancy, which was carefully monitored and well-managed by the cardiac team. No need to worry!

Trivial really does mean trivial. No one apart from you will ever care about this result and definitely no health professionals.

Thank you so much for your replies it's really helped to calm me, hearing other people's experiences is like therapy! I will definitely try to forget about it ..

I’m sure that if it was serious the cardiologist would have said so.
I have complete L bundle branch block, LVF and so I have regular monitoring Echocardiograms. My cardiologist updates me honestly after each one.
Yours wouldn’t have lied to you.

Yes OP I’ve got leaky heart valves too, or mitral valve regurgitation to use the medical term 😁. Only found coz I had indigestion and gp did and ecg followed by an echocardiogram. I have annual echo’s just to monitor but no symptoms.
If your doctor was at all concerned I’m sure he would have told you.

Thank you 🙏🏻 nice to know the medical term as the cardiologist didn't actually use that wording..he said trivial leaking heart valve
Feel much more reassured to know I'm not alone in having this and that it's nothing to worry about
I guess anything to do with the heart you go into panic mode x

@FluffyWasMyCat Forgot to say my cardiologist said I didn't need any follow up echocardiogram or anything when I asked
Do you think I should get it done privately every couple of years or yearly?

pippapipps it might not even be mitral regurgitation. Trivial leaking heart valve might be something different. The doctors use some strange words sometimes but I would get back to him and check whether you need any monitoring.

Villageelite · 12/08/2024 17:20

We have this too as a sideline from autism .
dr is not concerned but said yearly to monitor .
my kid loves swimming so much .
but get tired easily .
