Blood Test or not

DD is five, she has had three infections/virus since christmas. has been very very tired and lethargic, decreased appetite, lost weight, very pale, dark under eyes.

so last week I took her to the drs and said she is not right and I was worried.

dr was quite foul about it all but in the end suggested blood tests which i came home, thought about and booked it for tomorrow.

since then her appetite has picked up and her general level of energy. she does still look pale and dark under her eyes but overall was really good today.

she is petrified about the blood test tomorrow.

dh thinks she is ok, I am struggling to make a decision and feel that something is not quite right with her but she has picked up a lot this week.

i am going to change drs as i have had a few problems with them and so do you think i should change drs and give her a couple more weeks and then if she is still not right do it then.

I would go for the blood test if she has been ill since XMas.

She could have (had) glandualr fever or somehting chromic like that. Having said that even if a glandualr fever diagnosis is confirmed they are unlikely to actually do anything.

Did they say what they are testing for?

the dr did mention glan fever but said her glands were not up, though they were the time before.

bump for others

Dd2 had blood tests for the same thing when she was about 3/4.

Her blood tests showed that she had a slightly low level of iron reserves, and something else (i forget what) was slightly raised, indicating that there had been some infection at some point.

In the end the doctor said she had post viral fatigue syndrome, and said that the best thing for her was rest and a good diet, and told us it would improve with time, and it did.

IndigoMoon · 31/03/2008 22:39

she does have a good diet but has been eating a lot of meat in the last week and i do wonder whether it is iron. i know that sounds daft but when i was pregnant I always knew when my iron had gone down cos i was desperate for bovril and steak (not together)

am going off to ponder. she is v stressed about the test

Tbh, I wouold have the test done, because if you don't and she doesn't get better, you will kick yourself that you didn't.

Have they given you 'magic' cream to put on beforehand ??

Dd was very good. I told her exactly what would happen, and I was honest and told her that it wouldn't hurt alot, due to the cream, but might hurt a tiny bit. She was brilliant.

The nurse that did it was good too, the wall had animal stickes on, and she made dd look at a frog, and tell her what she thought he was called etc etc.

IndigoMoon · 01/04/2008 09:28

i did cancel. no we did not get cream, the dr i saw was new and quite horrible and on second thought we wondered why he was doing them when there is a perfectly capable nurse at the surgery.

i think he was going to try and discourage us. i have had a few problems with the surgery lately and we are changing drs so we are going to keep a close eye on it and go from there. i have told dd that she may still have to have it in a few weeks.
