PCOS related hirsutism - laser removal

I have PCOS related hirsutism around my chin area, very depressing and bothersome having to pluck every or every other day. Lately started shaving and now the chin area has become greenish in colour with prickly the next day!

Considering laser treatment, I've called around a few places, two clinics said looking at atleast 8-12 sessions, another place that seems more reputable (decent amount of google reviews) saying atleast 16 sessions which I'll need to bulk buy if want discounted rate.

My question is, does the recommendation sound about right? Do women with PCOS need more sessions?

Any input is appreciated

Hi, no experience with laser hair removal however in desperation I had Eflornithine (Vaniqua) cream prescribed.

I used this religiously twice daily morning and night and did, after a month or two see a difference.

better yet, and it could be coincidence but I bought a Phillips Lumea IPL Hair remover and this definitely helped, to a point now where I don’t need to pluck or shave daily.

Both of these options caused some minor stinging (the cream especially however it calmed down after a few uses).

I now only use the Phillips a few times per month and shave every couple of days. Still not perfect but has made a huge difference to my life!

I have an at home ipl machine that I use weekly, it's brilliant.. I have to shave pretty much daily and I veet with mens sensitive veet once a week.. definitely makes a difference using the ipl. Can't ipl atm cos im pregnant but will get back to it once I've had the baby.

Was going to suggest IPL as above - perhaps even epilating as opposed to shaving? The pain decreases when you get used to it

Thank you everyone for all your feedback. My bad I should have mentioned I'm only shaving ahead of laser treatment, as clinics advised can't pluck for atleast two weeks.

I did consider IPL, but doing research I found that apparently the laser equipment used in clinics eg NG Yag are much more effective as cuts off the blood supply to the follicle

Vaniqua seems very helpful, in any case. Will look into this

Anyone gone for laser treatment via clinics? How many sessions / months did it take?

I have mild PCOS and have had laser on my legs. It worked ok but I am also on the Pill (Dianette) which damps down the PCOS hormones. When I briefly came off the pill for a few months the hair came back. I was told by the clinic that PCOS can make laser less effective.

Also there is a big difference between lasers - some are MUCH more effective than others so do your research.

Electrolysis is also an option if it’s just the chin?

Oh and yes IPL (Philips Lumea) didn’t really work for me.

Hi. I have this problem. I tried laser treatment for the chronic hirsutism but found it made the hair growth worse. Ipl on my face hasn't helped either but has been effective on the rest of my body. The only thing I have found effective on my face is epilation. Painful but effective.
