Has anyone else had worse periods after having children?

Mine seem to be back...that is, I have that awful stomach churning hormonal thing that makes me feel sick and everything down there aches.
Ds2 is 10 mnths old and still breastfed but being weaned gradually, of course...
They didn't come back till I finished feeding last time (about 16 months) so not sure yet if it is that.

I remember someone saying that periods hurt less and were easier after having children, but mine seem to just be awful, worse if anything.

If you have the same problem, how on earth do you manage to work etc, and do you find there is anything that helps, like medication or something - EPO etc?

Thanks in advance

I found my first couple were worse than before but they seemed to settle back to normal after that. HTH

Yes mine came back after 6 weeks after both my DDs (despite exclusive breastfeeding in both cases) and are heavier and more uncomfortable than they were before children. And getting worse from what i can tell. It is horrible. Have not gone back to work yet (Will do in June) but need to change tampax in middle of night etc even on heaviest ones (sorry if tmi). I wondered if this was common too. Thanks for th post. I will watch with interest. Will prob go back onto pill after finishing breastfeeding when DD is 15 months or so.

Mine have got worse with each child, i have "ds and am pg with db3, due anytime.

Mine are so bad i cannot leave the house for a day or two and have to get up in the night to change protection - both towel and super plus tampon. TMI: if i stand up it can sometimes run down my legs after a couple of hours of a tampon being in.

I had a mirena coil put in, and had no periods after about 6 months, with no more pain. I am getting one asap after db3 has been born. The 6 months were progressively lighter bleeding, needing only a tampon.

Oh BTW i have not breastfed so i don't know how that may affect you, my periods returned within 6 weeks postnatal each time.

i found mine to be worse after having my children. feel so sick and headachy. i tend to use peppermint tea and lavender oil on a tissue for the nausea. don't know if that's any help to you.

mrsbabookaloo · 31/03/2008 13:34

I found that my PMT is (a bit) better, but they are much heavier - I really need to resort to super duper big fanjo tampons, but am resisting, stupidly, to the detriment of my white knickers (sorry, TMI!).

Sorry, not really useful to you, hope you are feeling OK. At least I've bumped it for you.

Oh I feel better just knowing I'm not alone!
Thanks so much for the suggestions. I will go and dig out the lavender oil I think...if one of the kids hasn;t used it for something

Really interested in the Mirena idea, now. I always resisted the idea before as I wanted more babies and wasn't sure I liked having something 'permanent' in there iyswim, but Gawd, no more periods sounds fantastic!

I can't take the pill as I have borderline osteoporosis (I think...years since last scan) and it drives me potty anyway

Flight - i obviously got pg again after the coil, its very easy to have taken out I was worried about the same thing but needed something doing!

Oblomov · 31/03/2008 14:06

Mine def got worse. Are stilll quite light, so can't complain. But significantly worse pains.

Flight · 31/03/2008 14:06

Did it involve much having it put in, Scorp? You don't have to go into detail if you'd rather not!
