Mine is so stubborn none of the usual things seem to touch it (decongestant , syrup, tea, salt water, etc). It gets so bad at night I'm having to try to sleep sitting upright. So frustrating.

I find honey and lemon with hot water and paracetamol the most helpful thing for a cough. Not perfect by any means, but takes the edge off enough to be able to get to sleep.

Doctor suggested that DH drank honey lemon juice and grated fresh ginger which seemed to help him. He had horrible laryngitis and only really got better after antibiotics.

I had this and it was awful. I had an embarrassing fit in a shop so I was desperate to tackle it.
The thing that worked in the end was giving up all sugar. Cough disappeared in 3 days.
Apparently, it's all connected to inflammation and sugar is one of the main causes.

Day 5 and still having to sleep sat up. I find it calms after having hot drinks (whatever they are) but I've also been having a camomile and honey tea which helps. It's worse in the evening.

I've now got to the point when I'm coughing up phlegm every time and hoping that is my body's way of getting rid of it.

@ChristmasGutPunch lol I was desperate and it was like a miracle.
Try it for 3 days and see how you go. I'd love to know if it actually works or it was an amazing coincidence.

Steam helped dh. Thermos by the bed so when he woke coughing he could take a few deep breaths.

Years back GP prescribed codeine but not sure if that's still a thing.
