Lost my voice- tips for how to get it back please

As the title says I have lost my voice. I’ve had a cough for about 3 weeks with a very runny nose for one week. I thought I was on the mend but woke up on Sunday morning with no voice and it’s not back today.
I’m due in work tomorrow where I need to be able to speak. I can take a few days off if needed but I really don’t want to, however I can’t do my job if I can’t talk.
Does anyone have any good advice of top tips to help my voice come back please?

Don't try to talk (so if you need to talk at work, you can't work). Whisper instead. Steam your head as much and often as you can and gargle with warm saltwater. Otherwise it's just time I'm afraid.

eat some raw ginger 👍

Rest your voice!

The laryngx only benefits from rest. Whispers can make it worse not better.

If you need to talk, you can't work.

I get laryngitis quite regularly when I have been ill. I haven't found there is anyway to address it apart from time and rest (both of me and my voice). I generally find that I completely lose my voice for the first 4 days by day 5 I can croak, by day 6 I sound like a teenage boy with a seriously cracking voice, day 7 generally back to normal.

Thank you all. I’m just feeling really frustrated that I can’t speak.

Hope you get well soon. Are you keeping up with hydration? Warm drinks I find can really help. I'm not a tea/coffee person but I do like a hot orange / hot blackcurrant Smile as PP said try to rest your voice. At work if you can utilise email over videocalls.

Thank you, yes I’m keeping hydrated and am resting my voice as much as I can.
I’m a teacher so if I can’t speak I can’t work. I’m feeling very frustrated.

My school (not wealthy BTW) provide speakers/ head microphone for teachers that want them, to save voices. Once you recover it might be worth getting some?

Agree that not talking tends to be the only thing that helps, but Vocalzone pastilles may tide you over.
