What is it like having a general anaesthetic?

I'm having one next week for some dental surgery and I'll only be out for 45 minutes, but I'm really nervous.
I'm also a little bit concerned about when you actually fall asleep. It says on the info they have sent me that I will be given an injection to make me feel sleepy and then I will be taken to theatre and given the actual anaesthetic. I assumed the first injection was the pre-med, but then I read that you have to ask for that.
Naturally, I've been googling and reading horror stories, and now I can't think about anything else.

Well, I wasn't completely upset that it was cancelled , but it was the inconvenience of dh taking a day off work and then there were loads of roadworks in Bath. I just want to get it over and done with.

as some others have said - its bliss. Can you book them privately?

Well, if i go private it would cost me about £5000, but my lovely dentist arranged for me to have it all done for free, including the braces. I asked the consultant if the op I was having was a common one and she said that there were two more people having the same thing done. However, they were children!

I had it done today! Got there for 7.30am, and sat in a cubicle for 4 and a half hours. When I got to the anaesthetic room I was really nervous and the nurse had to hold my hand. I think I nearly crushed hers!
Anyway, they put the cannula in and gave me something to make me feel sleepy. Next thing I remember is being wheeled to theatre and someone putting an oxygen mask over my face, which i pulled off, and then I was waking up in recovery. I felt absolutely fine, and was even having a little dream before I woke up.
I can't eat properly though, and I'm really hungry. I can see the tooth in my pallete and also there is a little chain attached to it. Not an unpleasant experience after all.
Thanks for all your encouragement.
