Children eye prescription.

I paid for a contact lense consultation for my 14 year old.

Bought a few months worth from optician. We are rural and quite remote and the prices are frankly shocking.

They aren't happy to hand over the lense prescription. Just the Minus value. But none of the other measurements or indeed a signed prescription.

They gave me mine, but not the kids one?

Are there different rules for children?
It was a paid for consultation so surely I have the right to have it?

I'm not convinced they have to hand over a contact lens prescription. They do if it's a glasses prescription.

If you've already bought some lenses, can't you use the details on the side of the box to find the same ones online? I wouldn't switch brands without input from the optician though.

Assuming they are straightforward disposables I don't think there are really any other measurements besides the minus number.

The prescription is on the packaging/boxes that the lenses come in, you can very easily use this information to order them yourself online - no need to ask for a prescription

You can't supply contact lenses for children over the internet, it's illegal and for good reason, a growing eyeball needs checking with the lenses in situ twice a year.
Contact lens wear is the most common cause of microbial keratitis which can have devastating effects for the eye.

They do have to provide a contact lense prescription, for adults anyway.
What I don't know is if it's the same for children. I have friends who are provided the prescription for their children so not sure if it's just my optician.

You generally do need a current signed prescription, not just info from a box of lenses.

The information that you need to input to order on sites like lenses direct is freely available on the side of the contact lens box. I’ve been ordering mine there for years and now DD is 19 with a stable prescription for a number of years I’ve started ordering hers there too. I echo PP in thinking that 14 is too young and really at this age you should be sticking to more regular eye checks at the optician. I definitely wouldn’t have been ordering DD’s online at that age

I have never needed to ask the optician for either of our prescriptions at all.

I use a lens website which has never asked for a copy of my prescription, I just have to tick a box to declare I have a valid one.

But if pp are right that it's illegal to sell contacts for children online then maybe best not to!
