Dairy intolerance, stress, stomach pain

Hello, looking for some advice if possible.

A couple of years ago I developed dairy intolerance as a result of stress. I think it had been developing over several years and finally a couple of years ago it got to the point that I just can't have dairy anymore or, if I do, it will end up being a full blown 3 days worth of pain.

I am currently going through another highly stressful situation and every time I get a sudden pang of adrenalin/fear I have to go to the toilet. Obviously I am still not eating dairy at all, but my recovery period seems to be getting longer and things like imodium just don't help, in fact they make it worse as I end up feeling painfully constipated.

Does anyone have any go-to neutral foods they use that neither aggravate nor prevent these bowel issues? Or else foods that you would avoid.

I eat pretty healthily, I tend to eat more fish than meat, I eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and don't really eat many sweet things apart from the odd vegan cake.

Many thanks

I don’t have much advice I’m afraid but just to say you are not alone, I am going through a very similar scenario.

Although I have had ibs for 26 years and been dairy free for 20 years I am having a lot of gut problems atm. I am also going through a very stressful time of my life and my digestive system is going crazy. When I’m going through this all foods seem to upset me. I could eat dust and still have issues.

Have you tried going low fodmap? I do follow this diet and do many other things to help like but directed hypnotherapy but I think stress overrides everything.

I too find imodium makes me worse in the long run. I do find charcoal tablets help me quite a bit. I had a really bad episode yesterday and took some last night and have felt a little better today. There is a product called Juvia which is supposed to help but it’s quite expensive.

When I’m having a particular bad day I stick to plain rice and fish or turkey.
