Melanoma?

Hi, I’m anxiously expecting to see a consultant. The GP couldn’t say much. Could this be melanoma? I have two children under 3 and I’m horrified.

Melanoma?

I don’t know but it could be an old blood blister?

teoma · 12/04/2024 19:37

Thank you @FlowerBarrow - the GP wasn’t sure it’s a mole but equally, couldn’t say it’s something else.

Look ..my daughter had melanoma while she was pregnant it was a mole on her back she had it cut out and has been fine ever since please don’t worry to much

BettyOBarley · 12/04/2024 19:39

My first thought was that it doesn't look like a mole to me tbh

BettyOBarley · 12/04/2024 19:41

Ps meant to say that I know the terror though, I have 100s of moles. I've had ones removed that even the dermatologist thought looked dodgy and they haven't ended up being melanoma, so please try not to worry at this stage.

Nicetobenice67 · 12/04/2024 19:45

It doesn’t look like a mole but tbh it doesn’t have to be a mole …looks like you have trodden on something tbh and nicked it….Don’t worry

ASeagulStoleMyIceCream · 12/04/2024 20:06

I had one on the palm side of my finger that looked identical. Saw a dermatologist who confirmed a blood blister. If it itches or bleeds it might be something else though.

teoma · 12/04/2024 20:12

It doesn’t itch or bleed and I don’t have any additional symptoms.

Years ago when I was pregnant, I developed a mole out of nowhere on the sole of my foot. It really freaked me out and I was terrified it was cancer. Turned out to be just a mole. It has disappeared now. Very odd. I hope it's nothing OP.

I had something that looked like this on my foot. I was terrified it was melanoma, loads of Googling and taking photos of the bloody thing (this was the height of my health anxiety, too, which absolutely didn't help). Got a chiropodist appointment whilst I was waiting to see a GP, she examined it and shaved it off, it was just an old blood blister where I'd stood on something sharp. Apparently it's very common and people often panic about them. Obviously do get it checked and follow GP advice, but the greatest likelihood is that there's a simple, benign explanation to this, so try not to let the panic take hold.

Toooldtoworry · 12/04/2024 20:27

I've had a squamous cell carcinoma cut off my arm last year. It looked like a wart that kept bleeding and changing shape. Skin cancer is the most treatable cancer.

teoma · 12/04/2024 20:35

Thanks for the reassurance. My husband is abroad at the moment which doesn’t help.

I would have thought the fact that it is on the underside of your foot makes it less likely to be melanoma as that part of the body won’t have much sun exposure. It’s most common on the legs for women. Either way, it’s good to get it checked, but try not to Google or overthink it- there are lots of non-scary things this could be.

Bearpawk · 12/04/2024 20:46

Did you have a freckle or a mole in that place beforehand op?

teoma · 12/04/2024 20:53

No, it just appeared. At first I though I’d stepped on a Lego or something 🤣🤣

Bearpawk · 12/04/2024 20:56

Ok, well if it's just appeared, even if it is malignant, the sooner it's removed the safer you'll be.
I have stage 3 melanoma btw. It's not an immediate death sentence.

I had a malignant melanoma 18 years ago, I was fast tracked to dermatology, they took a biopsy and I was called back in within 2 days. Day surgery the following week to remove all cells around it. Had regular checks ups, I caught it early as I have severe psoriasis so had noticed it when putting creams on it literally appeared overnight. Ironically I think it was caused by sun beds which were recommended by GP to help psoriasis Confused never had a problem since, they just cut it out and a large area around it. Please don't worry until you know what it is/isn't as it could be completely harmless

Cristall · 12/04/2024 22:15

That looks like a scab or a blood blister. I wouldn’t even have gone to the doctor, I’d just wait to see if it went away. In fact I’d probably have picked it off. It’s good that it’s getting checked but to my (non medical) eyes it looks unimportant.

Hey! I can’t pick it off, it’s like a spot on the skin. It’s not raised.

My blood blister wasn’t raised either - it looked like a mole just like yours.

Cristall · 12/04/2024 23:25

Foot skin is really hard. A blood blister on the foot doesn’t raise up like it does elsewhere on the body. I’ve had flat blood blisters on my foot before. Like I said, best to get checked but I honestly think it’s nothing.
