Mirena coil pain and depression

Please if anyone can advise me about the mirena coil I would be very appreciative. I had a mirena coil fitted 3 weeks ago during a laparoscopy for endometriosis and also had a cyst removed during this time. My pain levels were okay after the first week but the it has come back in past 3 days, some sharp shooting pains in my right ovary and just general cramps.

I am due to have my period today but not sure if I will get it? Does it normally still come after mirena fitting?

I am also very concerned as my mood has been extremely low the past few days. No motivation very irritable poor sleep. I am really worried this is being caused by the mirena as I don't normally suffer to this extent.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi, I don't think periods necessarily continue in the same way, I'm sure it varies, probably best to as your GP. I hope you feel better soon!

I've had exactly the kind of pain you describe after Mirena insertion. Still get it to be honest, but worth putting up with for no periods. They did take a while to settle though, had a lot of spotting for first 3-4 months.

I got a period on the coil roughly 29 days after it was fitted. At one point I thought I was going mad to bleed for so many days but wasn’t imagining it as bleed during a recent internal scan.

Meant to be ovulating at the moment but no usual sign (famous last words!) just outrageous horrid dreams. (like really nasty violent themes)

Tried to get help from the chemist who sold the pill but they referred me to the installer of the coil.

I cancelled the Gynae consultant who put it in and have kept the potential removal appointment next month with a clinic.

It’s really interesting, it did come up on a private scan the coil was at least positioned correctly even with an attempted removal nearly 4 weeks ago someone said they’d had disks in the back problem solved many years ago, I’m similar in back problems and they’ve had the coil in 2 months ago causing them grief - I do seriously wonder if the coil is truly unsuitable for people with previous spine aliments and mental health conditions. I wonder it if gets taken out and stops blood in the urine and stools which have been found since having the coil, though admittedly I haven’t had these tests pre coil to know for sure but it seems one hell of a coincidence.
