Vitamin D deficiency

I have been diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency which is 29nmol. I have symptoms such as tingling, twitching (all over body), some weakness in both arms and legs, achy joints & fatigue which is annoying.

Is anyone going through this and have similar symptoms to me? Worried it could be a neurological illness in disguise! I have taken 2 tablets so far (20,000 tablet 2x a week) and I think I feel a tiny bit better? Not sure if it’s in my head.

Thanks

Can anyone explain what exactly the tingling feels like? I'm getting some tingling feelings atm or more accurately my skin feels more sensitive and like there's a constant draft. I know it's cold right now but this is different. Wondering if I'm getting low again-although my symptoms last time were only aches and pains. My B12 is good, iron is 16 (not great but I've been lower) or am I just perimenopausal...

Few years ago I was experiencing lots of pins and needles in my feet and hands. They were really painful that I I had to put my hands under a tap to help. I was also having Alopecia areata. Gp did a blood test and said my vitamin d levels were very low. He gave me a high dose of vitamin d to take once a week for 6 weeks. I was told to then take vitamin d over the counter. I sometimes forget to take vitamin d but get reminded when the pins and needles return!

I don’t know how anyone is getting their GP to test them. I have asked more than once, different doctors and they all say ‘everyone is deficient ‘ and refuse to do it.

If you're turned down by the blood transfusion service, they're basically obliged to.

In my case, the GP agreed to test me for iron, but I paid my pharmacist for another rest.

I was suffering from hair loss and have been taking Biotin + zinc and selenium, which has improved things and I'm even seeing new hair growth at my hairline. Can't prove it works but my nails are stronger too and I'm not losing anywhere near as much hair as I was, so I'm carrying on with it. I also take Vit D.

I have tried most iron supplements and the one I have stuck with is in the form of a daily spray onto the inside of the cheeks; no side effects whatsoever for me with this one. I get it from Amazon but expect most health shops have something similar.

What supplements do you take and where do you get them please?

I bought a bumper lot during Covid after it was advised to up Vit D levels
So I bought online as there was no way I was going into a shop

Its
Vitality - Vitamin D3 and K2
5000IU D3 plus 200mcg K2
90 capsules
suitable for vegetarians and vegans
distributed by VitaminExpress

One taken every 5 days is the recommended dose and it certainly worked to up my levels ( although I did make the mistake of taking one a day which scared my doctor quite a lot after getting tested for levels Thats down to me not reading the dosage correctly and nothing to do with the supplement though )

nb
If anyone is PM me I’m afraid given the MN website updates today I can’t see anything atm.
It’s all gone to pot a bit

As an aside I was reading some research yesterday on vitamin D and for those with low levels in hospital ( for whatever reason ) their recovery time is longer

Also worth noting neither I nor my dh ever got symptoms of Covid. Despite our children getting it in school. Maybe those high levels worked

How does anyone manage to get tested ? My GP refused. Just says everyone is deficient. I’ve been suffering with crushing fatigue, joint pain, tingling and twitching all winter. I’ve started using a spray but can’t say it’s made a huge difference . It doesn’t help that much.

You can buy tests on Amazon.

High dose Viramin b12 is available in the same spray format and available from Tescos as well.
Thanks for the intel on Biotin zinc and selenium.

@WearyAuldWumman im giving blood in May so perhaps I’ll get an update or easy blood test if I’m refused. I may wait for that.

@Todaysthedaytocelebrate
I think that that is a good idea - there's no point in paying if you don't have to.

When I was still young enough to give blood, I was sent to see my doctor after being turned down. My then GP checked my results and intoned "Well...you're low for a man, but not for a woman from this area!"

Healthcare by postcode?

I might just be in one of those postcodes 🥴
We’ll wait and see
