Hi all,

I have always suffered from dandruff, but lately in particular my scalp is flaking these large scales!

I have used T Gel before but didn’t find that helpful. I’m using a clarifying shampoo atm.

can you recommend anything else?

also why does this happen to me?

thanks

This was post chemo (had cold cap).

Ah thanks for sharing…

that looks very similar to my scalp. Is this seborrhaic dermatitis then? Sorry can’t spell!!

It depends what the condition is, if its a fungal condition then Nizoral is effective as its an anti fungal shampoo but best to get it on prescription to ensure you get the correct strength of the active ingredient (ketoconazole) Nizoral will also help if its seborrhoeic dermatitis. If psoriasis then you may need a steroid lotion or shampoo but best to see your GP to be sure.

The Body Shop scalp scrub is very good.

There's one by Philip Kingsley a relative of mine swore by.

Very expensive but it was the very last thing tried and it worked. She had lumps of skin just like that.

Following with interest, as DH has this problem. Its been going on for a good few months now. He's seen the Doctor and got a shampoo prescribed unfortunately it's not worked.

I have psoriasis and my scalp gets scales like that. I use Capasal shampoo (prescribed) and a scalp massager when washing hair to lift them off

I've just started using Aveeno shampoo specifically for dry, itchy scalp (the label claims that's what it's for) and I've only used it 2 times and I have to say I'm very impressed.
I've gone from scratching constantly, to the point where I'd be scratching off large crusts on the scalp and they would bleed, to not having any of that at all. It's made from oats and it is so soothing & comforting on the scalp. I don't itch, and barely have any flakes, if any at all.
I used to use head & shoulders, that tamed the dandruff, but never fully removed it, and after a few days of not washing my hair I would be itching my scalp again making it sore.
The Aveeno is expensive, but it's on offer at the mo in Asda, boots & Superdrug.
I didn't rate the conditioner, as I didn't find it very quenching on my hair, but the shampoo is amazing. Lathers up really well too and has a really lovely pleasant smell to it.

I have this.
I use bodyshop ginger shampoo and use a scalp massager in the shower

If it flares up bad I use Nizoral massage it all over wait a few mins then rinse

Philip kingsley itchy flaky is OK but pricey

I've tried Aveda scalp exfoliator too, jury's out on how effective it is but it feels nice

If it is SD you probably need something medicated like Nizoral
