Would you be concerned about an 11 day fever?

Feel like I am probably BU here, but I can't stop worrying about DS12's temperature. He has been ill with a cough and has had a fever for 11 days now.

He got given some antibiotics on day 5, which are now finished. He seemed to perk up a lot after starting them, but nearly a week later he's still got a horrendous, wet, hacking cough and this damn high temperature. Other than that, he's okay in himself. Appetite has come back and he's chatty, but only enough energy to lie on the sofa and watch TV or whatever. His breathing is fine.

It's not so much the length of the cough, as I know they take time, it's the length of the fever and the sound of the cough that are worrying me. Perhaps I should just wait longer? Could really do with some thoughts.

If he's finished the antibiotics and still have a fever I'd take him back to the doctors, he may need a different antiotic or a longer course.

Thanks. I just feel silly because he is better than he was and I think they will say to just ride it out.

I would definitely go back if the antibiotic hasn't brought down the fever. Clearly he still has a raging infection.

Could also be viral. My daughter had covidast year and was really unwell for about 14 days 😕

Do take him back if you're worried though - it's always best to check!

Did they test for viruses? Did they test for bacteria before giving antibiotics? Did they rule out covid, considering cough can be a covid symptom?
NHS: ''Fever caused by a viral infection will usually start to improve within 2 to 3 days. If your child’s fever lasts for more than 5 days, get them seen by your GP'' & https://www.citymd.com/health-and-wellness/temperature-check-how-long-does-a-fever-last#:~:text=For%20many%20COVID%2D19%20patients,after%20exposure%20to%20the%20virus.
''For many COVID-19 patients, the fever often begins as an early symptom. It can last for several days, typically ranging from 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus.''
