Lipid Profile

Hairlikeabewitchedhaystack · 07/04/2024 20:33

I am 56 Yr old female, on 2 x BP meds since I turned 50. Hight cholesterol and hypertension run in the family and dad had extensive atherosclerosis requiring by-pass and amputation. My latest lipid profile came back as follows:

Total Chol = 7.37
HDL=1.98
Non HDL = 5.39
LDL = 4.44
Trig = 2.06
Total: HDL ratio = 3.7

GGT and ALT slightly raised also at 83 and 39. The accompanying note from GP said to contact him if I want to discuss. I
assume with those results I need to? Slightly baffled he doesn't seem bothered or am I missing smthg? Could do with losing a stone too.

Thanks for any advice.

My lipid results are similar to yours (slightly lower) & they won't treat because my QRISK is 5%. I don't have hypertension though, or raised liver enzymes and only a tenuous family link.
I would chat to your GP & see if they think statins would be helpful. I don't know if this sort of level of liver enzymes is suggestive of fatty liver?

Actually the NICE guidelines have changed for statins and the QRisk doesn't have to be greater than 10% now - it can be prescribed as primary prevention below that. My numbers were slightly lower than the OP and I'm a similar age and my QRisk was 7% - my GP happily prescribed some for me. I've had no side effects with them

Statins might be contraindicated in someone with elevated liver enzymes.

A few (like Pitavistatin) are only minimally processed in the liver so possibly an option.

Definitely need to discuss with GP.

Thanks for the replies. My liver enzymes go up and down a lot, so much so that I've had ultrasounds and other tests. No fatty liver. I'll make an appointment to see the GP and see what he advises.

I'm a 59 year old female and my lipid profile was very similar to yours. GP thought he'd have to persuade me to take statins and I thought I'd have to persuade him to prescribe them!
After four months of treatment my bloods are all well within the normal range and I've had no side effects. Perfectly happy to take them forever! Do speak to your GP.
