Does anyone use a seat wedge for back problems?

the continuing tale of franny turning into an old lady

(see threads on shoe inserts, shopping trolleys etc)

I have just bought one to help with back twinges while pg and also to combat slumping in chair which probably contributed to / caused ds being OP at birth

thing is, it feels really weird to sit on it
I am almost leant forward kind of thing, with my back not touching the sofa at all - my neck and bum are starting to ache slightly

am I using it right and will it actually have any effect? i don't think I can sit this upright for long, plus have laptop so it is sliding off my down tilted knees

what is it? Is it thicker at one end? Think I have tried most things in my time! I find the lumbar roll best. You put in small of your back and it forces you to sit properly. Definitely not uncomfortable. Used it while I was pregnant too.

Oh that sounds really uncomfortable, my DB has this for the car, he swears by it and takes it every where with him It is in essence his hand luggage.

Hope you are feeling better, Sorry, I was feeling a bit crabby last night.

Shake ??

yes it is thick at the back, so it tilts you forward
makes your hips higher than knees so good for OFP

I did look at a lumbar roll but from memory you can just use a rolled up towel and I think it would not stop me from slouching

oh thank you for saying that Bree, am sorry you were feeling rough last night

I think my wedge will be useful for the car - I remember reading car seats are one cause of bad posture in pg

I am using one of these sitfit

FrannyandZooey · 29/03/2008 18:55

gosh that looks really unusual TheBlonde! is it comfortable?

well you could use rolled up towel but doesn't work as well IMHO. Cushions do tilt you forward so you get the 'S' in your back - think they work better on ordinary chairs than sofas IIRC. If you're getting back problems you could ask to be referred to specialist antenatal physio team - most hospitals have them.

am seeing someone in about 10 days
I never sit on 'normal' hard chairs - I hate them
do you think this wedge is suitable for the sofa or have I bought the wrong thing? they do say it is fine to send back if it doesn't suit, so this is a kind of test

It is comfy, they also sell seat wedges

perhaps you should just sit on a ball?

pinkteddy · 29/03/2008 20:41

Without seeing it - difficult to say but I guess if you are not comfortable and its not helping you then maybe you should send it back? Trial and error I'm afraid to find what suits you!
