Hey everyone for about 6 months know I’ve had eczema behind my legs just getting worse and worse . It now weeps all the time and sticks to my trousers I’m in agony. Has anyone else hasd it like this and what made it better. I have allergies to dust mites but I’ve never had a sore as bad as this before

I bath with oilatum and use pure coconut oil ( has to be pure) or Aveeno for dry skin. Obviously wear loose trousers or if you're not busy tomorrow just let air get to it to dry it out as it looks like it's weeping

Oh poor you, that looks sore!
My adult son suffers like that, and doesn't find that moisturisers help much. He uses steroid creams to get it under control, and then gets as much air to it as possible. So synthetic fabrics aggravate it, as does any overheating. He wears shorts most of the time now, or cotton trousers.

Are you taking high strength antihistamines?

Organic sunflower oil preferably with vitamin E in is very close to natural skin oil and is more breathable than the heavy creams. It could be used in between any steroids,

Have you tried wet wrapping?

TheGirlattheBack · 05/04/2024 23:58

I’m sorry, that looks so sore. My worst ever eczema flare was caused by the Mirena coil, drove myself nuts for 5 years trying to work out the cause - only worked it out when it was removed and my eczema cleared significantly.

Have you started any new hormone treatments?

Vitamin D can help clear eczema - lots of new research on the link if you Google it. My eczema is mild now but definitely been helped by Vitamin D supplement.

I've got pompholyx eczema on my palms. It's been really bad at points.

Exo cream from the GP along with prescribed topical steroids seems to be currently doing the trick.

I have had it like that in the past. The only thing that can sort it at that point is a strong steroid ( elocon ointment not cream is my go to). If it infected you may need antibiotics. If there is a fungal component you might also need a fungal cream. It would be worth getting a Drs appointment to get access to the stronger steroid if you don’t have access already and they can asses if they think it is infected or fungal also.
Dermol 600 in the Bath is also amazing.

doctor and steroids.

NoFaceNoName · 06/04/2024 00:35

We get Fucidin prescribed when my DD is like that. Call your doctors on Monday and ask can you email in a pic, save waiting weeks for an appointment. Otherwise maybe some steroid cream if you have it and try and let the air to it as much as possible

Betnovate from GP clears a flare up in a few days.

I'm a lifelong severe eczema sufferer- now thankfully controlled by biologic medication- but I've dealt with many flare-ups over the years and here's a list of my best advice, both medical and anecdotal. It became a bit of an essay, and I apologise for that, but I tried to get in as many tips and suggestions as possible. Following all of them can be nigh-impossible, but at least you can mix and match what is and isn't feasible for you.

  1. Go to the GP if you haven't already, or if you haven't been in a couple of weeks and it hasn't improved since. If it's infected or if there's a fungal element, they'll have specific treatments to help.

  2. Where possible, use ointments and not creams. In the past I've been prescribed elecon, betamethasone, and protopic ointments, I'd try and get one of those from the GP. Ointments do feel oily and horrible at first, but it helps so much faster. Where you do have to use moisturiser, stick to the aforementioned Oilatum, Doublebase, or Diprobase (though I've had bad reactions to it since they changed the formula, so be careful with that one)

  3. Antihistamines! I need promethazine daily to keep my skin in check, and extra during flares. It can really help with the itching, and also help you get to sleep which is so much more difficult during a flare.

  4. Be mindful of what fabrics you wear over it. Open air is usually best, but otherwise stick with linen or cotton if you can, even silk if that's an option! And make sure to wash everything in non-bio detergent, preferably without fabric softener. Bedsheets, pillowcases, and clothing can all keep irritating the sore spot.

  5. When it comes to bathing, there's a couple of points. Temperature control can massively improve your comfort. Don't shower with the water too hot, or have steaming hot baths. Again, it's not always pleasant, but lukewarm is better! And as soon as you leave the water, moisturise! It can be counterintuitive when you're putting oils right back onto clean skin, but water alone is dehydrating.

  6. Cut out as many potential triggers and irritants as possible. Switch out your regular shower and bath products for oilatum, E45 or a prescription alternative. Non-hypoallergenic soap is the enemy, even if you wash your hands and then touch the sore place. Don't shave around the area. I'm also allergic to dust-mites, and when I have a flare up the worst thing I could do was dust, hoover or change bedsheets; if there's nobody else around to do those tasks, just leave them as long as possible. Lastly, while food may not be the main trigger for you, many people find cutting out dairy to be really helpful. You don't have to do it long-term, but it might be worth a try.

Once again, apologies for the essay 😅 I really hope you can get your flare-up under control, I know how horrible it feels in the meantime

Using a sunbed once a week for a few minutes helped me the most out of everything
