Hi there, I had this growth on my scalp for a while now and never thought anything of it but just wondering does anyone know what it could be/ what it looks like?

Growth on scalp?

I don't. It doesn't look like it's angry though.

Just bumping and congratulations on the photo taking skills.

I’ve gotten something similar a few times (not sure if it’s the same though) and switched shampoo to sensitive shampoos- best I found was either tgel or garnier with oats- white bottle pink cap

babymama38392 · 05/04/2024 22:42

thanks, could be worth a try with the shampoos, but this thing on my scalp feels like skin tag? Fleshy growth no clue what it is though but had it for ages I believe, just wondering if anyone had similar and knows what they are haha

I would get that checked out by GP op to be on the safe side could be nothing but safer to check it out incase it's cancerous.

I have a raised skin coloured mole on my scalp have had it since birth but if this is something that's recently appeared or changed or grown defiantly get it checked over.

CJ0374 · 05/04/2024 22:43

I doubt changing shampoo would have any impact! Its not clear when I zoom in, but looks fleshy like wart or growth. Have you shown your GP? 99% they will say its cosmetic though and they won't remove it.

babymama38392 · 05/04/2024 22:45

It’s not shown up recently, i felt it ages ago probably years now but never thought anything of it only now took pic to see what it is, and yes it’s flesh like quite squishy growth

And no haven’t been to gp with it as just took pic now to see it

Hasn’t a hairdresser ever commented on it? If not, then is it new? A new growth should always be checked out tbh.

babymama38392 · 05/04/2024 22:49

Nope never commented on it, not a new growth had it for years

I’ve had one like that for as long as I can remember.

it’s never bled or anything so I haven’t bothered had it checked out or removed since mine is behind my ear and you can only see it if I wear a high pony tail.

I sometimes let hairdressers know about it and tell them that it doesn’t hurt if they happen to brush over it when cutting my hair.

Hannahthepink · 05/04/2024 23:12

I had similar, but it started getting a bit scabby and bled a little bit.
I had it removed as it turned out to be a BCC (the least serious type of skin cancer).
They're fairly common on the top of your head as that's where the sun hits.
Please don't fret about it, but it's great that you know it's there and can keep an eye out.

Hannahthepink · 05/04/2024 23:41

Also, BCCs are very slow growing (which is why they're less dangerous). Mine would have taken about 15 years to get from initial sun damage to large and squishy then about another 5 to get to the scabby stage.
I only point it out because often people talk about new moles only, and they're rightly often the ones to worry about more, but the slow growers still need attention sometimes.

Borgonzola · 05/04/2024 23:44

Oooo I have one of these! Keenly following as I haven't ever gone to the GP about it

whatisdrowsybutawake · 05/04/2024 23:58

I have one exactly like that OP, it's been checked out by GP and a dermatologist who both said it's a skin tag. Can be removed but would be a cosmetic procedure rather than medical.
