Operation Recovery ...

I had a fairly straightforward operation on Wednesday.

I've been home since Thursday.

I've been getting better, but today I feel worse. The side of my face feels more swollen, the wound site feels itchy, and maybe infected?

I'm not on antibiotics.

I feel nauseated and hot and foggy.

Is this normal? At what point do I go to the hospital?

I'll try to dig up a thermometer, that's probably the best check for an infection ...

(And should I stop watching House? I think that may be part of the problem )

ggrrrr, NQC! how about some yoga? just for a wee while.

or some Pilates?

yeah?

NotQuiteCockney · 01/04/2008 21:23

If I bike, it'll be biking to reduce my exercise - I'll be biking distances I'd otherwise have to walk!

I don't actually feel like any exercise at the moment - if I did, yeah, a pilates DVD would be the ideal start.

k, try the bike then.

are you taking arnica and vitamins?

anorak · 01/04/2008 21:32

NQC, can't you get someone else to do your journeys for you, even if for a couple of days. Your body has enough to do repairing itself at the moment.

If you don't feel like doing any exercise it might be because you shouldn't.

NotQuiteCockney · 02/04/2008 07:19

I don't do homeopathy, so no arnica. Will take vitamins. I'm eating ok, and have been indulging my every food whim (pork scratchings, wtf?!?).

I can't think of anyone who could do journeys, but will try to think of a way to wimp out tomorrow.

The incision on my face is less red and puffy today, so at least the antibiotics are doing their job. I didn't get enough sleep (again) because DH was busy sorting out packing for his trip, and wanted help/company.

At least, for the next two nights, once the kids are in bed (around 8pm) I have the house to myself and can go to bed early, if I'm sensible enough.

If you don't want to take any tablets to help you get to sleep, how about a nice lavender bath?

I didn't believe Bach's Rescue Remedy had any effect, but I used it before my scan last week and maybe it was placebo effect, but it seemed to take the edge off.

Take care of yourself, NQC, there's only one you!

NotQuiteCockney · 02/04/2008 19:15

I have special sleepy bath stuff, I might use it tonight. Although, tbh, just having the house to myself will help.

I think I'm finally on the mend today, I did my nursery shift, managed the kids (ok, with a lovely friend and her two DCs here too) this afternoon, and a neighbour is helping out now. I have booked childcare or whatever for the boys for the next two days, so I basically have no responsibilities - I have to get them places in the morning, but that's it.

I did ride my bike today, but only the distance I would have otherwise walked.

The incision is looking pink, rather than red, today, and I think the infection is going away. I wonder if the infection was part of the cause of the exhaustion.

I didn't sleep loads yesterday, but I do still feel I'm on the mend - enough so that I went shopping for the ingredients for coleslaw, made some, and ate loads. Apparently I miss my own cooking. (Haven't made coleslaw since a bad anchovy-coleslaw incident at Xmas!)

No exercise today, anyway. And I have tomorrow booked off, too.
