Struggling with bunions, I'm only 40 but it's currently flaring and v painful 😖. Got to the point that I can't just buy shoes anymore and I'm struggling to find shoes that aren't too 'wide fit's that my foot does tslip around in it but not standard that it rubs. Any recommendations for brands of shoes, trainers and walking shoes/boots you've found areaybe a wider standard fit?

Vivaia.

Not the most stylish and all the nice ones are permanently out of stock but they are designed for bunions.

I’ve found FitFlop work for me. Have their smart trainers and the walking boots.

Fly boots
Skate trainers- brands like etnies, DC shoe co, emerica etc

I can't recommend shoes, I tended to stick to soft runners or fitflops when my bunions were bad but I can recommend surgery. I had both feet done at the same time when I was 41, admitted in the morning, surgery in the afternoon, GA (epidural offered also but I turned it down), up being taught how to walk with two protective boots keeping all weight on my heels next day, home the following morning once

I had proven I could walk and manage stairs, fortunately we live in a bungalow so that was helpful. Also used a wheelchair for a week or two if I was out shopping, dinner etc with dh simply for comfort, I was alone when he was working and managed fine. I have arthritis in one foot which caused big toe to set badly so it was redone after a year but I'm still really glad that I had them done. My feet aren't the prettiest, big toes are shorter than they were, both had to be broken during surgery but my bunions were severe and my mother's feet were completely misshapen so I knew what was ahead without surgery. I can now walk without the awful pain I was in, some shoes are too narrow but not many, I seldom wear heels now but because of back issues not because of my feet. It also amazes me how invisible the scaring is considering the work that was done.

i wear: hoka one one arahi mens wide (or standard) trainers for running
I have some nice little Ugg milo leather trainers (standard size amazingly) which are fine.
I just bought some damart (I know 🤦‍♀️) leather sandals for summer and they fit really well.
I’ve had moderate success with hotter in the past but they don’t have anything I actually like very often.

I have a very wide toe joint and it’s also really deep so I need very specific shoes. Sandals for summer is my biggest headache every year. I also can’t wear anything memory foam due to fallen arches and plantar. My two feet aren’t actually a pair anymore either, the left is much smaller than the right which brings additional problems as my shoe is too loose on that foot.

Bunions since age 17. I find that I need a shoe now (nearly 50) that has a deeper toe box, soft insoles under the joint and arch support to stop over pronation of the foot which puts extra pressure on the joint. I wear only boots in the winter, fly London, Merrell and Skechers. Skechers trainers d lites and for summer birkies with the soft footbed and at least two strap styles (one strap puts too much pressure on the top of the joint for me). Latest addition is Skechers sandals with arch support not sure how they will be in the summer yet though.

If it's fashion trainers you need I find Vans very wide, some of the ranges now offer arch support too.

Thanks all, helps to focus my search

@thenewaveragebear1983 I've often thought about men's trainers, i do run so I might well try on some mens if they go small enough thankyou.

Great to know surgery has benefitted you so much other posters, I have to admit I think I'll end up having it but it terrifies me!
