A few times he has expressed this. In one occasion it was during his exams and he said he struggled to read the text and all blurry. Not sure if it's eye strain, stress or hormone related. Should we see the doctor or opticians? We saw the doctor recently about his dizziness and tiredness (he didn't mention the eyesight DH went with him!). Blood tests shows low iron levels but nothing was prescribed. He also gets nose bleeds which doctor didn't make much of.

Wondering if it's migraines.

Optician in the first instance I would say as they are best place to check high sight and the health of the eye. If that doesn't show anything then I'd go to the GP.

TravellingIncognito · 02/04/2024 19:28

I second the migraine suggestion, it can present as just dizziness/visual issues. Look up vestibular migraine.

Hoglet70 · 02/04/2024 19:43

I get vestibular migraines and I cannot read at all when I have one. They are horrible. It does sound like that.

RampantIvy · 02/04/2024 19:44

When was his last eye test?

calligraphee · 02/04/2024 19:46

It sounds like migraine but should not be ignored.

I would go to BOTH the optician and the GP. You will see the optician more quickly I think, should be able to do that tomorrow.

If it is migraine there is a lot of self-help that can be used to try to prevent them - hydration, sleep, working out triggers (not easy if stress is the trigger, but anti-stress techniques like meditation and breathing can help).

But you should get it checked.

Ds was like this in his early teens and it was migraine. The dizziness when it started with his was awful. He’s been on topiramate for years (he’s now 18) and is much better. The dizziness has gone completely though he still has regular headaches.

He also suffers from heavy nosebleeds and frequent sinus infections and is waiting for an ENT appointment for that.

He has blue tints in his glasses.

soupfiend · 02/04/2024 19:55

Could be migraines

What about thyroid?

myhouseyourhouse · 02/04/2024 20:06

Has he actually had an eye test? It sounds like he needs glasses.

Totallybannanas · 03/04/2024 15:09

Yes 6 months ago. He is short sighted. He is going through a growth spurt and exams, always on his phone or screen too 🫤

For brevity and trying to get to the bottom of this, I’d book appointments for both GP and optician. OP, you mention low iron - is this being treated say with a supplement?

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 03/04/2024 15:39

Just a thought, but blurred vision can also be a result of high blood sugar. Has he had his blood sugar checked at all? Does he have tiredness, thirst, weight loss, peeing a lot etc? Generally diabetes comes on very quickly in young people, but sometimes has a slower onset over weeks - I don't want to alarm you, and it's probably been checked already, but it's just a thought.

myhouseyourhouse · 03/04/2024 17:22

Mmm ok if he's recently had an eye test and already been prescribed glasses then my first port of call would be the optician. I've found they're really helpful and much quicker than a GP appointment. They'll be able to look at his eyes for any issues and potentially retest. You can go from there once a few things have been eliminated.

Staring at screens all day is really bad for us, he could have eye strain. I get blurry vision with migraine.

Hope you get some answers soon!

Totallybannanas · 03/04/2024 17:27

He has had blood tests yes no it sure about blood sugar. I think it maybe hormonal due to puberty. I have been giving him feroglobin doctor didn't prescribe anything.

It's definitely worth getting his blood sugar checked asap. My son complained of blurry vision and lightheadedness and I told him he probably spent too much time on his screen but it turned out to be diabetes

Headingforburnout · 04/04/2024 05:41

My DS has had this recently. He had various tests including repeat bloods but nothing ended up being found. He’s been making an effort to drink more water and also has had a big growth spurt in the last few months which I think contributed to the dizziness. He seems to be improved thankfully.

Helenmelon74 · 04/04/2024 06:24

Do you know what his iron levels and HbA1c were?
