I think my gall bladder is angry. What will happen if it is?

I ate some roast dinner on Sunday. Between then and now, I've been to the loo close to 15 times. I don't have the runs though. I haven't slept tonight because the right side of my rib cage has just been persistently burning. It's not severe pain, but it's enough to stop me sleeping and it doesn't get better if I change position. I've also been very bloated and uncomfortable.

Looking back over the past few days, my appetite has dropped off a cliff edge. I haven't eaten a full meal in almost a week. And looking back a bit further, there's been a lot of stuff such as pain between my shoulder blades, wind, severe bloating, eggy tasting burps etc that were all red flags according to Google.

I'm making an emergency GP appointment today because I'm sore, but assuming it is my gall bladder, what will happen after my appointment? I've never had issues with my gall bladder, but it's a common complaint so I'm hoping someone can give me some insight

They need to do an ultrasound to take a look and see if there are stones or sludge, they may also do blood tests to check your liver.

Think about any other symptoms you may have had and how long they have been going on for/frequency so you can give a full picture to your GP.

Unfortunately waiting times can be long so it's likely you'll be advised to switch to a low fat diet and keep a record of what you have eaten so you can identify any attack triggers. You'll also be given advice about pain killers to take if you do have a gallbladder attack.

If this is your first symptom then you could be months off of an ultrasound and then onto a waiting list for treatment, the most common and effective being gallbladder removal.

I was 'lucky' in a sense, I had the pain you are describing infrequently for years but thought it was caused by my back so just took painkillers and carried on. Then one night I couldn't, it was sheer agony and I was vomiting every couple of minutes. Got myself to A&E where they did a CT because they thought it was kidney stones but the CT caught a bit of my gallbladder and showed an absolutely massive stone. Blood tests showed an infection and I had a fever so was admitted on IV antibiotics. ABs did nothing so after 3 days I was taken in for emergency surgery. Stone had fully blocked bile duct and my gallbladder had started to rot so I had to have a full wash out and drain fitted and more IV antibiotics for a couple of days before I was allowed home. While a generally unpleasant experience it meant no waiting lists.

I have gallstones and what you describe sounds like gallstones to me. I'm currently in the middle of a three day flare up after not having any issues for the last 12 months.
They will want to do ultrasound to see if their are any stones. If so they nearly always recommend removal unless the pain is infrequent and minor. Mine was infrequent and minor until the last few days! They'll do bloods too to check that it's not effecting liver or pancreas etc. Gallbladder pain is the worst pain in the entire world. If it revs up you will know about it let me tell you. Get in with the GP ASAP to confirm.
